Ayup folks, Gonna get rid of BT broadbean, and go for sommat else.
Cheapest/best i've found so far is Talktalk, who're claiming 18.1mb/s and unlimited downloads for £19 (inc line rental, but we never use the house phone anyway)
Good Deal, or is talktalk the missing member of the Internet axis of evil?

Don't ever, ever go with TalkTalk. They really are appalling. I've known half a dozen or so people who have used them, and two rated them as not great. The other four had massive problems with them - equipment not coming, then being charged for services they couldn't use because they had no router, then struggling to cancel, then being charged after they cancelled, then struggling to get that money back. This is multiple people I know who have had this problem.
If you need further evidence I found last night that TalkTalk are the same people as AOL Broadband.

My Dad's had a few people he's helped out who've been on TalkTalk, nothing but trouble and huge phone bills he's had to claim back ringing their helpdesk.
Sky's about the same price, but people say it's quite slow, Plusnet don't seem to do unlimited and Virgin have just upped the 20M package to 30M, but it's about £5 more than those and you have to use their wireless router now (firmware patch to make it a standalone cable modem supposedly forthcoming).

Usual rules apply with ADSL, if you can't walk to the exchange and back in an hour, you're probably not getting 24 meg.
If you're in the arse end of nowhere, get cable if available. otherwise:
Plusnet: owned by BT. that is all. Left them due to packet shaping issues.
Virgin national (virgin's ADSL) Seems fairly decent, their top package is a bit spendy though (£32) though they did just call me and drop it down to £18 or so. (and apparently will be going from 20meg to 24meg in the near future)
Bethere are basically the gods of adsl, fast, cheap, no extras that cost you money. (owned by O2).
I suspect 02's internets are a good deal too, given (IIRC) they bought bethere to give them a more consumer option

If you can get cable, get it. Best package you can afford.
Otherwise you're stuck with ADSL:
O2/Bethere is prob best
Sky Broadband (easynet) is actually good.
I wouldn't touch anyone else narf

Talktalk gave me no end of problems trying to sort out my parents tinterpipes. Shit service, massive waiting times on delivery/engineer visits. Their first line support seem to be more stupid than any other I've talked to as well.
