(mis)adventures in baking! (or I how I learned to Stop worrying and love bacon)

There is one truth in life, universal, unwavering. Bacon is great. I don't know from where the idea possessed me to waste perfectly good bacon on trying this food experiment. The idea has kept me in it's thrall for long enough.

Bacon Brownies.

Experiment commencing here.

In order to save money and resources I've used a premixed brownie kit. The bacon was on offer so it was either use it before tomorrow or give it a Viking funeral.

Betty Crocker, You dirty bitch.

Baconz were dully grilled in the traditional manner, not too hard, not too soft. Perfect.
Image

They were then cut in to small bacons I call bacon jr.
Image

Meanwhile Crocker's magic was setting in as I added the wet ingredients to the powdery mix. Looks good so far.
Image

Stand back. Who knows what could happen.
Image

Oh, the universe didn't implode. Alright. Mixing time. Farewell bacon jr.
Image

Starting to look appetising again.
Image

Godspeed you, chocolate bacon jr.

Time passes.

Sometimes cooling is the best part. Perhaps not in this case.

Cutting. GAH AUTOFLASH!

And now, the moment of truth...

A decisive meh... The bacon sort of adds to the chocolate; the saltiness gives it a kind of savoury edge similar to what you'd get with really dark chocolate. If you've ever had the surprisingly salty chocolate dip at pizza hut you'll know exactly the sort of depressing anticlimax I'm talking about.

Bottom line: I'd have preferred a sandwich.

 most pleasing sir.

Worth remembering that salt is a flavour enhancer, so a pinch of it can work wonders in sweet things.

I think I would have fried the bacon a lot more, till it was half the size and crispy-crunchy.
Sort of salty, surrogate chocolate chips.
