Here at Joystiq we don't always pay proper attention to PC gaming. Luckily FiringSquad has picked up the slack. The site has issued its 'Most Anticipated' games of the year list, featuring twenty upcoming titles. Here's a look at the top five:
  • -Supreme Commander (Gas Powered Games/THQ) - spiritual successor to Total Annihilation; sci-fi RTS will dual-monitor support

-Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Splash Damage/id Software/Activision) - prequel to Quake 2; two playable sides (Human and Strogg) are said to offer vastly different gameplay experiences

-World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade (Blizzard) - the expansion to end all expansions ('cha-ching')

-Spore (Maxis/EA) - from single-celled to universe conqueror; the video game to end all video games

-Crysis (Crytek/EA) - it has the looks, can it live up to the hype?

I'll definitely be getting Quake Wars, Spore will be too time consuming so it's a no from me, but Crysis may be a possibility if the multiplayer side of the game is done well

i can't say I'm excited about Quake Wars, although i've never been a fan.

Spore however, will be awesome, if only because i was to create a race of giant purple cocks that spunk as an attack, that natural selection process is a piece of piss. I also think it will be fun exploring the galaxy and interacting with all the weird and wonderful creatures people have made.

I'm glad it's not an MMO because I'd die from playing it too much

I'm still looking forward to the reviews of Supreme Commander, despite the luke-warm reception the demo's had here. TA was brilliant.

Quake Wars I'm rather excited about. The only reservation I have is that the sides might be a bit unbalanced, but I'm hoping it'll be well playtested. It remains to be seen whether it'll beat Futurebeef - I'm expecting a Q3 Vs UT style split.

Burning Crusade holds no interest, as I expect it doesn't for most 5punkers.

Spore is making me clench in excitement. They'll really have to make an effort to cock this up from what we've already seen they want to do. I only hope they can pull it off (and all evidence points to them having done).

I'm really meh about Crysis. Sure it looks pretty, but looks aren't everything. FarCry was nice, but nothing really special in my eyes. Wasn't it based on a tech demo?

:above: this. Once you had taken the pretty away, FarCry was incredably average. I havent seen anything that makes me think Crysis will be otherwise. Pretties are all well and good, but if its just another shooter, then balls to it. HL2 was pretty, but that wasnt what made it great.

Pfffft. Took me a while to get that fix.

For me I'm only really looking forward to Quake Wars. I was skeptical at first, especially after playing the BFs but from recent videos it looks like it will have quite a lot of tactical play, as opposed to the old Quake style of play.

Cryis looks like another pretty FPS but I love 'em.

Spore sounds like one of them games that I could appreciate as being good but I usually get overwhelmed by the openness, I like to be guided.

I'm looking forward to quake wars, I just hope it wont be similar to quake 4 in that it takes about 10 seconds of shooting to kill some one. It has jet packs though which I suppose is enough to offset any flaws :)

I was looking forward to Spore and Crysis, after finding out EA are publishing them both I'm just hoping they dont completely mess them up
