Language bar

I've just noticed something weird. The language bar on my toolbar has appeared, and for some reason keeps switching to US settings, meaning my keyboard swaps the " and the @. Its really rather irritating. I've no idea what's causing it to flip from one to the other, but every time I set it to UK, it seems to stick for a while but eventually switches back to US again. It doesn't seem to be triggered by opening any particular program that I can see, and its not been doing it long (only noticed today). To add to the weird, if I go into the settings, the UK keyboard is the only one installed.

Any ideas?

There's a really simple keyboard shortcut to switch layouts- Alt+Shift, I think. Check your language settings to see if that's active.

That's normally only for the active window though

Nope, weirdly its not listed in the bit where you can install/uninstall languages.

I know under XP in Regional and Language Options box from Control Panel there's a details button you can click on in the Text Services and Input Language section which brings up the Keyboard layouts that are installed on the machine.

That's one of the first tasks I always do and I can't imagine MS changing it too much for Win7.

You are absolutely correct, its the same in Win7. That's the really weird thing though, there's only the UK keyboard layout showing as installed. And yet, if I click on the language bar itself, the option to switch between US and UK is there. WT and indeed F.

I might try installing the US keyboard layout, and then uninstalling it again.
