Stargate SG1 and Atlantis

First off, Let me recommend these series to all. They are (once you get used to them) chuffing excellent. Reasonably original storylines, mostly decent acting (for a tv sci-fi), and, as the series goes on and the budget gets bigger, some fairly pretty effects. The thing that wins me over to the series as a whole though is the fact that it is perfectly happy to take the piss out of itself at any given moment. Some of the funnier episodes manage the rare treat of a sci-fi thing that makes me laugh (other than the out and out comedys like Galaxy Quest, obviously.)

However, its suddenly given me Maximum Rage.

At some point around the end of series 7, they start the spin off series Stargate: Atlantis. Apparently, the two series tie together a lot, and really ought to be watched side by side. However, I cant find, anywhere on the net, any guide as to what episodes go in what order. Im guessing its one for one, so I should watch SG1 then atlantis then sg1, but ive no fucking idea whether thats true, or when I should start this. If any of you other geeky types happen to be able to shed light on this, I would be willing to offer my bumhole for your personal amusement.

Watch SG first, then Atlantis

SG sx01
Atl sx01
SG sx02
Atl sx02
etc

Tho they tie in so loosely I wouldn't be over concerned if you get them out of sync.

An excellent program, would highly recommend.

I've always liked SG1, it's certainly better than the film it was spawned from. As for Atlantis, I'm not such a fan so don't know much about, I know that the SG1 characters sometimes visit the Atlantis show but I don't believe that this is reflected in the SG1 episodes. I'm not enough of a fan to say positively

Besides, now MacGyver has left it's all gone to pot anyway.

I stopped watching SG1 at about... ages ago, series 47 I think it was, they were showing on Channel 4 on Sunday afternoons and I work Sundays so I couldn't keep up with the show. I started watching Atlantis when it aired and loved it, Series 1 and 2 were both awesome. So, I love Atlantis but don't bother with SG1, I probably miss out on some intriging (sp?) plot cross-over moments but at least I can keep track of things :)

There is a *great* scene at one point where he interrogates a guy purely through his intimidating eyebrows. Was very funny. Honest.

http://www.tv-links.co.uk has pretty much all of them, its what ive been using. Ive only watched em from about series 6 though, so I cant vouch for the quality of the earlier ones.

Saying that, its via webpages, so the quality aint great at the best of times. Watchable though.

Bear in mind the show gets better a couple of seasons in, not that the early seasons aren't good they're just a bit basic compared to later seasons when more aliens are involved.

Also check out this still from episode 200, called "200":

(They're Team America type puppets and that's not the only weird thing in the episode)

I just grabbed the Doctor Who episode I missed from there - the K9 one, and it's pretty horrid quality. Maybe I'm too fussy, but even when I'm grabbing animated series I try to find stuff that's at least 10MB/min DivX. Perhaps it's just my reception, but watching a new Yu-Gi-Oh episode over freeview was just as dire.

My Sky box is broken atm, and my terrestrial aerial isn't correctly aligned, but I'm planning a major rethink on the home entertainment front in the new year, including relocating all the equipment to a custom-designed room and getting all the aerials and networking sorted properly. Unsubscribing from Sky would probably more than pay for a big fat internet pipe - I've already got a DVD workshop cluster, and plenty of mediacentre-capable machines. Also I need more space to Wii in - my feet almost touch the screen with the current setup, while that's good for immersion, there's no room to bowl.

My current mood is to do it all myself, creating huge disk arrays and simply creating my own TV channels of all the stuff I've missed over the years, as what I'm currently paying for isn't that great for the money. I've paid for Sky's full package since about 1990, and rather than any rewards for loyalty, they want 60 notes to fix my existing box, or £160 to replace it with plus. My internet is 30 quid pcm for (admittedly very reliable and synchronous) 256k, and I'm getting about what I'm paying for with freeview - there's fuck all on at night.

I'm now up to series 4 with SG1, and it's looking better each ep - they did skimp a little on previous shows now I think of it - even having characters onscreen where you could see the stargate effects seemed to be an unacceptable expense. The new title sequence is a bit boring, though.

"I like the yellow ones" (from the Invasion of the Lego Spiders ep) made me roffle most hugely, for some reason.

Anyway, am I still 3 series away from having to worry about the Atlantis stuff? I'm not that bothered about having them tie in directly, and will probably watch full series alternately - just wondering when it starts.

They have struggled for ten whopping years, defending earth from the evils of the galaxy. SG-1 has finally come to an end after winning numerous awards, as well as earning the current world record for the LONGEST running consecutive Sci-Fi series ever at 10 seasons. (non-consecutive award goes to Doctor Who at 30 some seasons) . Several months ago, right after the series 200th episode, due to low viewer ratings/numbers, SG-1 was not declared for renewal, and has been canceled. Is this the end of our heroes? NO WAY!

They will return yearly in direct-to-dvd movies, the first two being Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: Ark of Truth! Even if the dvd series fail, their legacy shall live on within the successful spinoff Stargate Atlantis which HAS been renewed for a fourth season! Indeed, we have not seen the end of the Stargate Legacy.

Today was SkyOne's airring of the final Stargate SG-1 Episode ever: SE10E20 Unending.

bzzt!

Doctor Who is the longest running non-consecutive show. Stargate is the longest running consecutively. It must be true, the Guiness Book of Records says so.
