Another fantastic looking film sequel to a comic book character, and it looks like the black suit is involved.

I think this is something to do with Venom, and the suit makes him uber powerful, but extremely nasty at the same time.

Also, the bad guy looks to be Sandman (right name???) and it looks great.

Correct on all counts, mr WEY. It is indeed venom and sandman. Yay!

The last one was a fucking awesome film, so here's to hoping they don't cock it up.

They should also be introducing Eddie Brock (Peters rival in the photo biz) in this one, for the inclusion of the venom suit to make any sence

Imagine that black suit, with about 100% more muscles, and your pretty much there. Also, very very sharp teeth.

I don't think Venom is in this one. We just get the suit and Sandman.

Venom *is* the suit, so it would be a bit wierd without him.

I thought Venom, as a character, was distinct from the suit.

This is going back a few years mind, so I am probably wrong.

Venom as bonded with Eddie Brock is an Alien Symboite (sp?) that was found by Peter Parker during the Secret Wars. It's a parasitic thing that lives off it's host, and Spidey wanted no part of that wicked game, thus that's why he doesn't have it anymore.

weeeell, depends. Thats what happened in the "classic" version. However, the first two films were based more on the "Ultimate Spiderman" storylines, and in them, the whole venom thing is an Experiment Gone Wrong™. I suspect they will go with the Ultimate version, they have with most of the rest of the films.

its less campy, de-emphasises the more silly sides of things ("im covered in radiation! its giving me SUPER POWERS!") but doesnt take itself too seriously.

Either way, *all* the marvel films have been much closer to the ultimate versions than the older stuff. I cant see them bucking this trend that much.

Venom is only Venom when the black suit/symbiote is bonded with Eddie Brock. Otherwise it's just Spiderman in a black suit.

Strangely enough though, even when it bonded with people other than Brock, it's still referred to as Venom (source).

However, Venom will be in it - there is a trailer knocking around that shows the suit being torn off by Parker in the church tower (helped by the noise from the bells) and dripping down on to Brock. Venom is then briefly pictured looking mean as fuck.

I'd love to see Carnage introduced as well.

Actually, again, that depends on the version. In the Ultimate version, the big nasty version of whoever isnt actually specifically called *anything*, iirc (I am now going to have to dig out the relevant comics to check). Its the suit itself (or rather, the research project that created the suit) that was codenamed Venom.

I'd love to see Carnage introduced as well.

That would be fucking sweet. Would be a whole other story though. Maybe the next film.
