Mouse

Bitches, spec me a mouse.
I got bored of my trusty old Microsoft mouse as the cable kept annoying me. Went out and bought a
wireless Logitech jobber, and to be honest it doesn't seem very good.
Middle mouse clicking is stupidly difficult, it isn't very comfortable (made for tiny hands by the feel of it) and the lag is very annoying (and quite surprising - none of the reviews I've read mention the "pausing" that occurs when you move it around). It also seems to make clicking on things a real chore - closing FF tabs takes 3 times longer than it used to.
Budget: not cheap and nasty, not the price of a new graphics card.

Go to PC world, try some mice on.
Then buy the one that fits online for half the price.
I've heard good things about razer, I personally like logitech MX510 shaped things (G5, now, I think) but you're best with something that fits your paw.

oh, and buy one with a fucking cable. wireless mice are too heavy and too laggy.

I've got a Logitech MX518, which is basically all you want in a mouse without all the fancy stuff.
Two side buttons, 2 buttons to regulate speed (3 different settings) and one to erh... I don't know what that one does, I think it's to switch windows.
I've had mine for years now, it's the first 'gaming' mouse I bought and it never broke down or got cluttered with filth and dust, only the little rubber feet are starting to wear out now. I don't know if they still make those though, but anything in that range is good stuff.

PC World thought I was shoplifting I spent so long mauling their mice (they actually told me this). Couldn't really get a good feel for any of them though.
Hmm, I may go back to cable. It annoyed me for a while, but not as much as this unresponsive slab of lead.
Who wants to buy me one of these?

I have a friend that used a razer, and while he said it was good performance wise, he had to exchange it twice since I've had my logitech. So not very durable it seems.

My boss sold me his old G7 and it seems to be OK. The batteries are shit though.

I've used hundreds of mices, but the only ones I can recommend are the Logitechs. Once the MX510s, then G5s, they're now the MX518 or better the G500 where like the G5 you get the little weights you can put inside them.
Fuck wireless, they are all crap.

I have a logitech MX620 as well, and I've never really been happy with it. Sadly it was a replacement for the Logitech Cordless Click! Plus, since discontinued, but was great - wireless, rechargable and no lag percievable - but the buttons gave in after too much WoW.
I hate wired mice, they drive me nuts and the tails and never bloody long enough. I've resolved to ensuring my "lol extra long battery life" mouse has fresh batts at least every month and it's ok. Ish.

I've had a limited edition blue LED Razer Diamondback for about 5 years. It's quite light, has a comfortable back end for the size of my palm, and wide, flat buttons. The scrolly wheel's not too bad, and doesn't usually click when you scroll it. The side buttons are a bit small and close together for me, although I set them to autorun and jump in Warcraft and can use them fine for that. I've just started to consider replacing it because the rubberised coating on the buttons is starting to feel a bit rough.

Get a Logitech

I have a Logitech G500. The software's shite but it's a lovely mouse. I was sceptical of the mouse wheel's notch/flywheel toggle but it's awesome.

The G5 is the MX518's bigger brother (and possibly replacement, I'm not sure), has customisable weights, and is laser rather than bog standard optical, shouldn't make much difference mostly though.
Also has a texture surface rather than a weird grippy coating that wears off.
On the plus side, they've made an MX518v2 which seems to have the same bigger feet of the G5, good thing.
I think it's been replaced by the massively overpriced G500 now.
I've killed a lot of logitech mice (the cables are weak) but logitech replaces them, which is nice.
Oh, and for Mr.J,
These are good

I was just wondering why I forgot to ask if anyone knew good replacement feet, but then you posted the above. Thank you Berk!
And another mouse related question: does it actually matter if you use a mousepad or not? I'm not using one now and I have the feeling that's the reason the feet are wearing out so quickly all of a sudden. I don't really want to lose the manoeuvrability I have now though.

Yes and No.
Mousemats are great because they're pretty smooth and give mice a surface they can track easily, and IME wear out before mice, and protect your desk/table from caustic gamer sweat.
I wouldn't say you need one, but I think they help a bit, also you can wash them a bit easier, which is nice when you spill your drink.
I used to swear by
These but they wore out pretty quickly, now I just use a flexible chopping board, they don't seem to wear that badly, but they also don't kill mouse feet.
All I need now is mouse cables that don't die on me.

I stopped using a mousepad as I got fed up with it sliding around everywhere.

That's why tape and non slip mat exist

I don't understand how people can have a problem with mouse wires getting in the way. A decent mouse should have a decent cable, that doesn't grip surfaces and isn't so flexible it gets caught under the mouse. If the wire isn't long enough use a USB extender cable. With some application of your imagination you can resolve all problems and not have to worry about charging it, the extra weight or connection issues. If you prefer wireless that's fine, it just seems like a hammer to crack a nut if you've had a problem with wired mouse cables.
My G5 has done well. I'd like some more buttons, so the G500 looks interesting but I'll stick with old faithful for now.

I still rate Razor mice. I found them comfortable, responsive and precise. They're also built fairly well.
My Copperhead is currently in need of repairs as I've used it so much that the button on the microswitch inside has worn an indent into the plastic on the actual armature (the bit inside connected to the external mouse button) so it no longer makes solid contact.
It's suprising as it's normally the microswitches that wear out first in cheaper mice, rather than the plastic getting deformed by hundreds of thousands of clicks.
Time to get the epoxy out so the mouse will last another 5 years or so, but I can safely say I've definitely got my money's worth from it.
