I use a 3 pay as you go package. At the time it was £50 for the dongle, £10 for 1Gb which lasts until it runs out or a month. You don't have to pay anything monthly, which was the draw for me. I also didn't have to provide any card details, so they can't charge you extortionate amounts for exceeding your limits.

Burn monies on a usb dongle package or suck it up.

And also accept 'I told you so' because I mentioned sorting it out ages ago. :P

If it makes you feel any better, the Virgin robot I was talking to on their website (which kept pausing to get a human because of my elaborately worded questions) says they could get me live in 72 hours. The conversation ended with:

Robot: "So, shall we move to adding this to your checkout then?"
Me: "Lets not be too hasty there."
*You have disconnected*

3 dongle here did me well for the few weeks I needed it. Not really online gaming material, but enough to keep the whoring addiction at bay.

Have you checked that there is no handy wifi about? Both times i've moved i have managed to make do for the few days on ether-web.

Failing that, i plug my blackberry in and use as a tethered modem. Do you have a phone/network that won't rape you on data usage?

not checked yet, though I reckon there'll be a few around, depends if they're open or not though.

and nope, phone won't work, and will rape.

You can get various data packages on deals with just buying SIM cards without having to buy a phone or use your current SIM, the best deals are based around contracts, but there's a top-up option that sits kind of between pre-pay and contract.

The dongles have SIMs inside them, so if you can get one in a deal without paying for it, or your phone won't take a different SIM or connect to the PC, they may be a better option.

I have an O2 SIM with £10 on it they forced me to buy when I bought my phone, which I'll probably never use, given the short time involved, a pre-pay solution will probably end up being cheaper if you can keep the bandwidth down.
