What have you mostly been playing this week?

I have mostly been playing X3: Terran Conflict. I fired it up again out of desparation while I had no internets and to break my hopeless addiction cycle to OTTD and Dwarf Fortress. To my surprise it's just had a new patch with a small content update, including a release pack of developer accredited third party mods (generally referred to as 'scripts' in this game).

For those who don't know anything about it, X3 is basically single player Eve with a joystick. The combat is pretty arcadey but it's a big sandbox type game with a working economy, 6 different factions and a bunch of megacorps that you can work for. There's also a story. ish. Rather than having one single plot, there are lots of mini plots that you can choose to do in your own time. This is good, cos if the missions are too hard you can take a break, go earn some cash, buy a bigger boat and try again.

There're also a host of mods that make changes or add functionality. For example, I am using a Carrier automation script that controls the logistics, equipping, deployment and management of my carrier fleet, thereby taking a lot of the annoying micromanagement out. I've also just downloaded all the Babylon 5 ships so I'm dicking around in a Whitestar while my factory complex makes cash for me to buy an Earth Alliance cruiser. Toy!

I've lapsed back into Warcraft this last few weeks. With 5punkchat becoming more popular among like-minded non-5punkers, we've frequently got enough people around to do random dungeons pretty much whenever you fancy, and even the occasional raid. Since the lack of availability (to us) of end game content was what ultimately caused most people to drop their subscriptions, it's nice to see this resurgence progressing, and it's nice to have a good pool of experienced players to put up with our drunken incompetence.

It's really good right now, we've enough people to be able to do pretty much anything we want, even to the point I don't have to tank :)

Viking: Battle for Asgard for the PS3. Not that good but it entertained me and it's narrated by Brian Blessed! Automatic win!

Ive been playing UFO. Ive been avoiding it for years as I didnt want to spoil the memory I had of it being awesome. I shouldnt have worried though, its still awesome. It looks poo, but the interface is surprisingly good for its age, and although its bloody hard its actually not that confusing.

Saying that, I have just massively fucked up my current game, and will be starting from scratch. All my doods are dead.

Cripes, I just looked up X-COM. It's been ages since I took any interest in it. I never got around to playing X-COM the First One, but only ever played Apocalypse and a bit of Aftermath, which I lost interest in when the difficulty curve stopped being curvey and became a pan galactical arse rape. There appears to be a bewildering number of sequels, remakes, spin offs...

Have you tried any of the opensource remakes like UFO Alien Invasion? Seems to be working and alive still, but I know nothing about it.

That was in single-player, when I had to make my last-stand and resources didn't really matter.
In my continuous game I have a respectable 500gpm :)

Oh, I've never seen that one before. There's another one, but the models are horrible and really put me off. Apocalypse kind of lost the theme, but still kept the feel. UFO:Aftermath etc weren't that good, losing the feel of the setting and the mechanics. Maybe it was the 3Dness that did it.

Formula 1 on the PS3, Tales of Symphonia on the Wii, Warcraft (levelling my original warlock character, not doing post-80 stuff) and a bit of my own games, nothing worth showing yet though.

That's one of my favourite games, but it doesn't get recorded on Xfire unfortunately.

I joined, but it appears to be an utter mess. I pretty much expected that though.
