Why the Firefly MMO won't work

Michael Zenke, the editor of Slashdot Games,
explains on GameSetWatch why he believes a Firefly MMO "just won't fly."
- -The Firefly universe isn't violent enough for an MMO. There just isn't enough fighting going on and killing rats won't cut it.
-Because "life is precious" in Firefly, it's going to be strange that an emphasis needs to be put on combat, which is important to an MMO -- thus the non-combat portions will be "waylaid and pushed outside the scope of the original launch."
-Joss Whedon's Firefly was clever and witty. How do you put that into something "narratively dead as a quest in a MMOG"?
-Um, you aren't one of the Serenity crew.
Here's hoping that
Firefly ends up working, for the simple fact that it would be nice to have a successful sci-fi MMO where your existence isn't ship-bound. Joss Whedon's "'verse" didn't even get a full season to develop, not to mention that although the series was incredible, the movie
Serenity is a mixed-bag for fans. In the end, maybe
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, with its seven seasons of potential plotlines and characters, would have been a better option for an MMOG.

Was he watching a different program to me? Because I seem to recall a program where damn near everyone carried a gun around 24/7, and there was a whole load of people who like wearing other peoples faces.

So maybe they could try something new.
They probably wont, but saying a game wont work because it may need to be original is a bit fucking stupid.

How about by making the quests into something you actually care about, rather than "go here, kill 20 of these".

The fuck? Of course not. I doubt that in the Star Trek MMO you will be on the crew of the enterprise. In Star Wars Galaxies, you are not a main character from the films, but thats not why I didnt like it.
Theres a few reasons im awaiting the release of this game with as much fear as excitement, but none of them are listed above. The fuckwit.

hard. As far as Star Wars goes, I've played a lot of Star Wars related games, and the ones I've enjoyed the most are the ones where the movies are in no way involved.

surely his intent at the outset (to prove why this will be a bad game) makes the whole thing completely irrelevant over something like a balanced look at the pros and cons.
I've never personally seen this firefly thing or star trek, when i was in school the latter was something firmly for spotty kids with glasses and their trousers pulled way to high up. Unless it's really good i think i'll probably give it a miss.

I thought in the new age of gaming they'd all gravitated to wow and for the most part left gamedom to relatively normal folk like us, only dropping in occasionally to call us n00bs.
