Doctor Who

Post by Grimmie »

Doctor Who, Doctor Who, calling Doctor Who.

I surprised myself and actually enjoyed tonight's debut of Matt Smith.
He strikes me as very Tennanty, but maybe it's just the similar accent, with Moffat's writing I'm sure he'll develop into something uniquely Smithy over time.

Also, zomg a companion that can act convincingly, do we have a Rose substitute?

Also,
Spoiler:
World War II Daleks look awesome.

:above: Also, stop trying to be Tennant and be your own version.

Tennant's first few episodes were a bit wobbly - watched his first one earlier today, the one with the swordfight in his jimjams.
He only really got into the swing of the character after a while playing it. Smith might be the same.

To be fair to Matt Smith, the Doctor has just undergone a regeneration and as previously shown isn't exactly at his most stable for a while. It's probably written like there's a bit of Tennant left over for the next ep or two until he 'stabilises' so to speak.

Good ep though, hopefully Moffat can keep the quality up (or better) unlike Russell T Davis who went downhill after a while.

I didn't really think "Tennant", the cheery "Hello!" was Tom Baker's thing long before Tennant started doing it and some of this new doc's mannerisms, particularly the chatting almost to himself about how clever he was reminded me of Patrick Troughton.

I enjoyed his portrayal apart from the self-congratulatory stuff, which should change now he has a companion to remind him how full of fail he was with his timings and am looking forward to the new series. The almost Time Traveller's Wife-like history of the pair was really well-done.

Probably no-one else noticed, but her teddy in the suitcase was a Bramwell Brown from Jane Hissey's Old Bear which are quite rare.

I miss the 9th/early 10th opening sequence.

Love the new companion, kinda like the new doctor. His attitude and voice is remarkably Tennant indeed, maybe that's why I like him in the first place.

I haven't seen the new Doctor. I'm a fan of Tennant though. Where is his career headed now ? Will he be making more films now ?

These spammmers really are getting quite good. But they surely can't spam as much when the post is tailored to the subject? That's bad spamming!

So, new variations of the Daleks certainly look menacing enough. The jammy dodger was a great touch as well.

I did kind of facepalm when it was explained that ship slipped through a crack in time (from the orbit of Galifrey no less) again. As the Daleks have slipped through more than once (this ship, the emperor and his ship which was way back with Ecclestone and caused the regen that spawned Tennant, and that single one that Ecclestone found early on that self destructed) then I'll be bloody suprised if Moffat doesn't use it to pull a Timelord or two through as well, more so considering the crack in the wall at the end.

Not a bad episode.

I hope he doesn't pull timelords through it, the last bunch were dicks. (circa John Simm as The Master)
I like the new Daleks, I hope they don't continue to shout "INCINERATE".

Some of the big boss-daleks were different colours before, maybe it's just an evolution on that.
On the other hand, maybe they're colour coded to make it more obvious which one the doctor just offed.

Indeed, but I seem to remember they looked like metal, not plastic. :P

Maybe the progenitor ran out of metalic paint and had to substitute gloss? :P
