Looks like the new BFBC2 patch (which just rolled out on Steam and has been available to non-Steamers for a couple of days) is chock full of problems. Tom Francis over at PCG has collated some of the problems people claim to be having, which includes crashes and connection problems. I can report that it's crashed to desktop for me since I patched on Steam this morning, although I've had stability for three games in a row now, so maybe it's okay. Hmm. (You can opt out of the patching on Steam, but that means starting it up offline, I think.) Which is probably a good thing, because I have stacks of work to and an interview to transcribe, but...

Anyone else having any issues?

Mine updated last night when I was a little bit tipsy. It worked completely fine. Just thought I'd mention it.

Does the retail version auto-patch? I can't find a download for it anywhere.

They changed it so the clan tag has square brackets by default now. So you might want to change yours or stick with "[[5punk]]" if you like.

Related? I don't see any news of new maps.

I've not played more than a few rounds since the patch (the splash screen autoupdates, but I think you can skip it to play offline), but I've not had a single crash. Beforehand however I was getting CTDs, disconnects, punkbuster shits, failing to connect to servers, failure to logon... Not necessarily that often, but it's hardly like it was stable before the patch.

One thing I have noticed is that the server browser doesn't auto-scan right away, so you can change your felcher settings first.

That's probably a good thing.

Hmm, server browser seems rubbisher. Despite felcher options to not pull up full servers, have PB and arn't passworded, it's ignoring the first two.

Also the lack of an option to update the server to get a new player count is odd considering the info window doesn't give you a current count.

It doesn't seem any worse to me, but I'd have thought this would be one of the easier things to get right in a game. Perhaps its of a lower priority. It's a real shame it doesn't do what you'd expect, a working ping column and more advanced filtering options would be very useful.

I found the sniping was less easy but that might be my skill failing. Or my mouse was playing up. Yes, that must be it.

It loads the updater before launching the game.

It wasn't doing that for me, I had to manually run it. It's all good now.
