Suggestions for feeds here please

5punk now has the ability to post rss/xml feeds directly into a forum, which should help bring new content to some of the forums and help increase discussion on gaming news and so on.
If you could all provide me with a list of relevant feeds, and which forums would be useful to have this feature, then I would be most grateful.
As a trial I have added the Shartak News Feed to the Browser Games forum, and you can configure how many items to process from the top of the list, so if a feed is really busy, it's nto necessarily an issue as we can throttle the amount of posts it gives us.
I'm guessing an Eve News, Steam News, Battlefield 2 News and this sort of thing would be good, and any suggestions for say dumping everything into one forum instead of specific forums are welcome as well.
In fact, that probably makes more sense, and I could always move threads that people have replied to into the relevant forum.
Let me know what you think, and post your links to feeds and a short descritpion of what they do.

Looking at the Shartak one, it all looks pretty good but 5 threads started at once seems a bit much. Is that just because it's catching up on old news, or are we likely to be spammed like that regularly?

Just because it's catching up on old news.
It's set to 5, so if tomorrow nothing has changed, it won't post anything, however if the next day there was suddenly 10 news posts (highly unlikely) it would only post the first 5 of the 10 new posts (if you see what I mean).
The reality with say the Shartak feed would mean you would only get a post when stuff is added say once a month or so, and it would allow people to discuss the topic without having to be prompted by someone else all the time like what currently happens in a lot of our forums here at 5punk.

is there any way it could be made to reply to a thread, rather than make a new one. that way it won't seem like half the content of the forum is spam.
either that, or give mods the power to felcher what comes in into seperate threads (say mods into one thread, patches into another)

That's pretty cool, I like that. I don't know of any RSS feeds (I'm a biff when it comes to fangled internet technology as I'm sure you know), but I agree with ones for our major games - Eve, BEEF and Source. Careful not to get carried away though...
Oh yeah, love the Trevor McDonald

Don't think there are any Eve RSS feed related stuff, but I'll find out and get back to you.

Saved me the effort of looking, cheers. That is likely to spam fairly heavily though, given that we get news articles near enough every day (except when CCP are in crunch time for a patch)

Good suggestions there Berk.
What about the idea of having a news feed forum, where moderators can move the topics into their own forums, either before or after they comment on them.
For example, Steam Powered rss feed, set to 5 posts a day, so that no more than 5 can get posted (highly unlikely) and then if anyone bothers to reply to it, or you think it is worth a mention, then a moderator can move it.

http://feeds.gawker.com/kotaku/excerpts.xml has lots of game-related articles, but there are several a day - without it staying in a single thread it would be way too much.

I can't think of any that wont overwhelm the forums with loads of new threads, the way it's working at the moment, but:
http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdotGames
http://www.eurogamer.net/rss/eurogamer_ ... e_feed.rss - everything
http://www.eurogamer.net/rss/eurogamer_news_feed.rss - just news
Also for the source of many of my
hilarious images:

Is there any way of putting the news items into a single thread? I fear that for the slightly less used forums like Steam, it could easily fill up with Trevor's posts. Failing that, could there be maybe a 1-week expiry on the thread, after which it gets archived, or bundled in with others? No idea if any of this is possible, but I just wouldn't want to open a forum and see 20 News Reader posts in a row.

I'm with Lat on trying to put them in one thread - it seems we're getting lots of new threads with no posts. Of course it'll die down once all the feeds are up and the backlog's gone, but if nobody's replying much then there's no real need for a new thread for each one.

Already talked to wey about this a bit, hopefully between us we'll get a decent manner of doing stuff.

Rah, it works right enough.
I share the same views as Lat, Dog and Berk here. Having trev reply to himself means we could just stickie one news thread in the forum. Course, what'd be really cool is to have trev update a stickies post with the latest feed, archiving off old content to posts below.
Course at that point Stoat may assplode in a shower of penguins.
