Hello my knowledgeable friends! I've got a geet big 32" TV now, and I would like to be able to watch the stuff on my PC on it, so whats the best way of doing this?

I've got a Galaxy Glacier GeForce 6600GT gfx card, which has 2 DVI ports and another weird round one. I'm not sure what it is, but none of my current cables fit it. It has 9 holes in it I believe, but from the pics I've seen of s-video, it isn't one of them because it doesn't have the rectangular hole in it too. It has 2 holes at the top, 4 in the middle and 3 at the bottom, with little indents in the circular outside next to the 2 holes at the top.

Is it possible to get DVI -> Scart converters, or does someone know of the best way to do this? I want it to be cheap! I've got a DVI -> VGA converter in one of the DVI ports, but the other is free at the moment.

the round hole is the one you're looking for, it'll either be plain svideo or something more fancy (depends on the card)

either way, you'll need a lead that goes from that to either composite (single phono on each end) or svideo (this depends on your TVs inputs)

Often a tv will only have one or the other (or none) but they are all the same signal, so you can convert svideo to composite to scart


you'll also need a 3.5mm to 2x composite (this is for audio if you wanna use your TV speakers)

See my edits. Also, the round hole is at the top end of the card, rather than in the middle as seems to be normal. I'd like to run the sound into my amp, but can find ways to make this happen easily enough. Its the picture I'm more bothered about really.

Oh yes, and my tv has the two audio inputs on the front, and a yellow video one, and a spare scart socket on the back.

Got a headphone->audio cable already, so if theres a video only solution then that would solve my needs.

just had a look here and the adaptor i have (may not be the same as at home) is a hole to component video (not composite) adaptor

(component is weird, more like vga/dvi than a tv signal)

Hmmm, that gadget appears to have video inputs at the box end of it, or does that not matter? What would I then need to connect the blue red and green cables to my tv?

video stuff is good like that, the box end are outputs, not inputs.

the red green and blue are (oddly enough) RGB for component video.

the yellow and black circly thing are composite and svideo (what you need)

Your scan gadget looks good, and cheap too. So how do I get from the variety of holes at the end to a lovely pic on my TV? Is it just a case of a composite to composite cable to go into the yellow hole at the front of my TV, or is it more complicated than that?

just a composite to composite (aka phono) either into the hole in the front, or into a http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/AD001.html into a scart hole.

I have nothing to add to this, Berk has pretty much covered everything I can think of.

Only thing, is it a Plasma, or an LCD screen, as viewing text on a PC on a Plasma that isn't high def isn't that great.

If it's just for the video/games side of things, then it will still look really good.

Once you've got it all hooked up I suggest checking the "horse TV detection" in the nvidia drivers, mine often doesn't work without this.

There's also a useful option to make video automatically play full screen on the TV rather than showing your media player window on the TV
