2.80 Homebrew Guide

The following is an idiots guide to running homebrew on a 2.80 firmware PSP.

This will allow you to run "user mode" homebrew, and not downloaded/pirated games :ahoy:

1) Download the following eloader installer eloader0995.exe
2) Connect your PSP to your PC via USB
3) Install the eLoader.making sure you choose this kind of installation: "TIFF, Installatron + Xloader - RECOMMENDED"

Now you have the eloader on your PSP, you are probably wondering what to do with it. Well, basically you can go to the homebrew database, download the homebrew (usually in zip file format) and drop them into the GAME folder on your PSP.

Basically you start the eLoader program by viewing the eLoader image in the eLoader folder within your Photos menu on the PSP.

You can either hit x to view the image, or hit the start button when viewing the folder.

What should happen is that the wi-fi light will flash, and then the screen goes balc, and the eLoader will start, allowing you to then run the homebrew applications you have instaled into the GAME folder.

If you have problems where eLoader will not run, then it's best to try it about 5-10 seconds after a fresh reboot, because if you try it straight away, or after playing around on the PSP for a while, it can hang when loading.
If this happens just keep the power button held up till it switches off.
Another handy tip if it keeps hanging is to wait for the thumbnail image to appear on the folder name before hitting start, or pressing x on the folder.

Certain homebrews are installed in specific folders, and it can all get a bit confusing, which is where Installatron comes in.

Once eLoader is running, you can use Installatron, providing you have a working wi-fi connection, which then allows you to browse the homebrew database mentioned earlier (link will be provided at the end of this post along with other useful links) and automatically download/install homebrew applications without the hassle of working out which files/folders you require for each bit of homebrew.

So to summarise, eLoader is a series of folders/files that uses an exploit found when viewing TIFF files with embedded code, which then allows the PSP to run in "user mode".

Below are a number of useful links to get you setup and working with eLoader on 2.80, as I am no expert (as you can probably tell by this poorly written guide) and I've only played around with this over the last 2 days or so.

Once I have installed and I am happy with certain homebrew apps, I will also upload them to the download section, along with a readme that is actually useful and in plain english.

Nice.

Sadly I'm on 2.81 at the moment. I updated when I rented GTA:Vice City Stories... which is a shame because it's shite.

Yeah, will do, I wrote that in a rush, hence it's shitness, but once I have tried it all out, my favourites will be uploaded to /downloads and a readme for each one created detailing where to put the files.

Expect this to be done sometime this year

In the meantime, Quake, Squarez & DGEN seem very nice.

I'll sorely need this thread should I get a PSP, like I asked for, for Christmas.

I now have a 2.80 downgrader (to 1.5) in my hands, however I am being extremely cautious before using it, and checking forums and so on to find out why some of them were bricked (mostly due to people not understanding German instructions)

If it works, I'll upload the file and instructions here.

Good luck with that, it should be fine.

I've just put the latest version of DevHook on my PSP and it's got some good improvements.
