Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media
Here is your handy-dandy Windows 7 tip of the day. Those of you that use this method, let us know in the comments section how this worked out for you.

First of all, the double install trick from Windows Fista actually still works in Windows 7. But there's a better way. Here's how to clean install Windows 7 using Upgrade media and a new or reformatted PC with no installed OS.

Europe didn't get upgrade editions though, did it? Due to European regulations. However a quick check on Amazon I can see there are upgrade editions available but they're more expensive than the full editions. I guess they're imports or something.

Anyway, this could be useful for some people from the colonies.

the uk upgrades are all full, IIRC.

We originally weren't getting upgrade editions because they had to make a special Internet Explorerless version for the EU. They've now put IE back in and added a ballot screen the first time you load it to let you download other browsers.

That means we do get full and upgrade versions but the full versions are currently still cheaper because Microsoft are honouring their original decision to charge upgrade prices for the full version. They're going to rejig the prices at the start of next year though.

I didn't see a ballot screen, it all installed and IE was there as usual. It opened to MSN.

I may actually attempt the switch today. I'm woefully unprepared for it but that just makes it more fun!

Sidenote: People with the student order might want to avoid the provided Windows 7 download from Digital River, as it appears to be corrupted. So you may want to consider sweeping a different version and then using the key provided.

Half the people there are mongs, the guy who took twelve attempts and twelve errors to not realise that downloading to his desktop and trying to unpack the bloody thing on the desktop wouldn't work is a case in point.

Oh agreed but to be fair, the MS reps were telling people to try downloading again after doing a "clean" boot, as if that would make a difference.

Well it would, less shit in temp folders and stuff.

I find polishing my shoes helps with my concentration levels.

Right, those of you like me who are using 32 bit stuff but got a 64 bit win7 copy

Go here and follow the instructions.

If you get errorz then you've not got the folder instructions right.

If it starts working it will generate the win7 iso you want.

Let us know if that works for you, I tried that and it failed, Windows 7 setup said files were missing.

(Although, I did use a shitty DVD-R.)

I fail because I spazzingly thought I could just mount it in daemontools and install to another drive whilst booted in xp.

So far the only dvd-r I've found in the house is one that a parent has attempted to use and has created a coaster from.

And I've lost my usb stick that's big enough to hold the image.

So I'm fairly boned right now.

Oddly enough, I tried installing the W7 from the dodgy student download files via USB and it worked perfectly... Not sure what happened with the DVD-R.
