Better than Doctor Who?
What does everyone think of the main characters, I'm personally not taken with Glen, the leading female role, but I can't put my finger on why.

I'm still waiting for this series to get into third gear, although I expect it's still trying to do lots of character building.

Also, what's your opinion on having sheep shaggers on telly, a good thing, or a baaaaaad thing?

Discuss...

I watched this for the first time last night and I can't say I was very impressed.

The characters seemed spend the entire time jumping in and out of that silly looking Range Rover, arriving late at the incidents and not doing very much when they did get there.

I realise that only having seen one episode I am missing certain details, but at the end I was left wondering what on earth it is supposed to be about. Most of the characters only had a few lines which did very little to advance any story line.

I'll give it another chance, however given that I am not a fan of Dr Who, I don't hold out much hope.

On a lighter note, Gwen is rather easy on the eye :)

I avoided starting a thread on this because I don't have many positive things to say about this show. But now I have an excuse.

I quite liked the first episode but since that it's become glaringly obvious that most of it is a clichéd rip-off of US shows like X-files and CSI, it's embarrassing. The ideas of aliens and monsters are pretty good and Doctor Who like, the rest is shite.

I love Doctor Who, but this is just appalling.

With Doctor Who it's *clearly* fantasy, tongue-in-cheek humour with more than a nod back to it's wobbly-set and obvious-costume roots. There is a suspension of disbelief, because that's how Doctor Who works - it's ridiculous, but it knows it is.

First I heard of this Torchwood thing was the director bloke talking on the radio saying "no, there won't be any crossover stories". Well that was bollocks, as two episodes in, here come the fucking cybermen. Actually I only saw them in a clip, as I only watched the first (double) episode and resolved not to bother again, seeing the cybermen dragged out again, considering that they'd only just been utterly obliterated in Doctor Who just convinced me it was toss.

I suppose if it was Doctor Who, it wouldn't be that bad - the trouble is that it tries to be "grown up", but just adds a bit of swearing and some supposedly sexy scenes. The result is similar to a child pretending to be an adult, but not in an endearing way.

The fact that it's all set in Cardiff is pretty stupid too, although I could possibly forgive it were it not for its other faults. It tries and fails to compete in a market that has proper grown-up, mind-exercising stories - there's more to making entertainment for adults than simply making things unsuitable for children.

Erm cybermen in the second episode?

Were there, I don't remember that? I just checked, and maybe you are refering to the cyber woman thingy which is the episode I haven;t watched yet, so don't post any spoilers please.

I'm still undecided, and to be honest, I agree with most of your opinions on it being a child pretending to make adult footage, but I'm still going to carry on and wait and see if this series goes anywhere.

Interestingly almost every episode is going to feature a faaabulous/bisexual scene, as the director plans on making Torchwood one fo the first shows on breaking down barriers on how we percieve people as being faaabulous/bi and you can find out more on this on the Wiki page at the bottom.

Do you think this is a good thing, or over the top, and not really necessary in a series such as this?

I guess it all depends on how it's done, and that it doesn't have a detremental effect on the show, and it's good to see a BBC show taking this kind of stuff semi seriously.

To sum up, definitely not as good as Doctor Who, but still worth a watch, as it's more entertaining than the endless amount of celebrity reality/game shows that litter the channels every night.

I saw the first two. It seemed like quite entertaining pap. Not quite as entertaining as Dr. Who's entertaining pap, but not enough to get excited or enraged about in either direction.

This. Its entertaining enough to make me point my face at the telly on a weekly basis, but thats about it, really.

As for the whole sexuality thing...Im slightly bemused. Apart from the alien pheremone inspired silliness with the fella who looks like a wide mouth frog, I havent noticed it. Certainly doesn't seem to me to have any more than any other tv show nowadays.

It is kind of... bad, but it's something to hold me over until the next season of Doctor Who. I kind of enjoy how ungood it is.
