Ok, I had a hacker on my PC, got him to fuck off.. thats not the problem.

He deleted all my drivers (and porn) and some other stuff.

I have managed to get all my drivers back, but had a lot of trouble getting the sound drivers. Now, I have them installed correctly, or so XP tells me.

I don't have any sound tho. Windows says that there are no Sound Devices on this PC :S

HELP?

Make sure you've got your motherboard drivers sorted, without them Windows sometimes can't correctly recognise other devices.

I really don't know where to start here...

Jack's suggestion is good. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the sound drivers. There's also a Windows Audio service that you might need to start.

God, it was hard to resist a snarky response, but I think I managed it...

Uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers anyway.

The Windows Audio thing is a Service, like I said. Go into the Services snap-in in Computer Management, go to the Windows Audio service in the list, and make sure it is started. And don't mess around with anything else in there.

i cant see how it could have been affected by the dirty haxxors, but is it worth checking if the sound device has been disabled in the BIOS?:?

It was disabled, but I already enabled it again.

And I guess he just went through and deleted them, to piss me off.

narf, i dont trust machines once they have succumbed to any spyware/viri/hackers.
i would backup then re-format. Especially if it was my own PC, holding various sensitive* infos.
And this time make sure you have a decent firewall and tell the user not to be an idiot and download exe files off winMX

I didn't have a firewall on because the uni has an awesome system, but i guess the guy was internal, but i got rid of him, for now.

I'm not gonna bother with the re-format, because im gonna get a new PC after christmas (if i can get the monney) so instead I'm just going to try to make this one last that long.

If you can id him, tell the Uni's IT support services. Most take a rather dim view of destructive hacking activities.

yeah i know, i didn't manage to get his ip, he logged out when i realised what was happening, and i just put up measures to stop him.

I should check the Event Viewer just in case (also in Admin Tools) and make sure there's no trojans running or anything with msconfig and SpybotS&D.

I would definitely recommend, but after what else you've said it doesn't seem worth it now. Although in future you should definitely protect your PC better, be more paranoid.
