Nah, it's probably less then what I'd pay for it in the stores anyway, and at the moment I'm not really interested in it anyway.deject wrote:And being the weak-willed Valve fanboy I am, I totally just pre-ordered it.
As a work around for high prices we could try using paypal to transfer money to someone who isn't getting screwed to gift it to you...

Pretty much this, I think I'll go back to the first one after the quick blast Pnut, Berk and myself had the other night. It was fun to a) play a short blast and b) see how bad we'd become after not playing in a long time.
Of more interest to me is the borderlands pre-purchase deal.
If you british bastards can sort it out amongst yourselves, there is a four-pack on Steam where you get 4 copies of the game, 3 of which you can gift away, and all that for the price of three copies of the game.
And it's safe to assume quite a few of us will, therefore it makes more sense to play it. L4D2 will probably get just as boring very fast as L4D did, since it's most likely going to be another one and a half year before we see the SDK released.HereComesPete wrote:I think I'll go back to the first one

Demo is unlocked (for pre-orderers only, I assume).
I had a couple of goes. It's short but entertaining. Much the same as the previous, obviously. New melee weapons are a lot of fun, as are the new guns and associated sound effects of all. Some graphic improvements, the gore looks great in daylight.

Played demo. Fun enough, felt a bit floaty though. Game is okay, but my only gripe would be with the way they did the setting.
I think they've gone overboard with political correctness, while it's okay to show a grimy New York or a grotty LA, anything but a sparkling cartoonish jazz-happy Louisiana is OMGRacist. I can understand why, but had kind of hoped for a little more balls when depicting areas still unrepaired IRL after hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, never mind post zombie-apocolypse.
The jolly jazz music when the horde come in horse is a great juxtaposition though and an excellent choice, but I did cringe a little when I found a randomly-strewn jazz guitar as a melee weapon.

Perhaps the zombie apocalypse is instead of the hurricane disaster, some kind of alternative reality thing. That sounds like a better plot device to me.FatherJack wrote:I can understand why, but had kind of hoped for a little more balls when depicting areas still unrepaired IRL after hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, never mind post zombie-apocolypse.
There's jukebox somewhere along the way which plays various tracks including Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton. Nice touch, I thought.
