BF2142 patch v1.05

The patch includes more than 25 fixes which will improve every player’s experience on the Battlefield.

The following fixes will be included, along with many others:

* Titan will no longer be able to move once its shields are down, so that lag within the titan should be significantly reduced and revive inside the titan shouldn’t be a problem any more
* Changes in EA master server communication to greatly reduce disconnects
* Players are now able to receive the Titan Survival Pin
* All players will see the same missile silo location numbers in Titan Mode

Patch 1.05 is scheduled for release later in November so keep watching this space for detailed release information.
More here.

From what I've seen BF2142 is less buggy than BF2 was when it was first released, but there's still room for improvement and I'm glad DICE seem to be committed to the cause.

I suppose there is a positive side to the in-games ads thing. The more people play the more revenue they get so it's in their best interest to make things work smoothly and fix any issues, even more so than BF2. Although I still haven't seen any ads yet.

they are certainly much more active in patching bf2142 than they ever were for bf2. A constant income from ads can only mean good things for the games development. i dont know why so many people are so annoyed about ads, ofcoure in the future games will rely on advertising support to keep game prices low: FACT

I wonder who'll be first? Balancing the benefits of having their ads displayed to dozens of users, against the fear of a backlash and a product boycott.

Now, in-game ads don't affect me, but does anyone know where I can get some Quafe?

You used to be able to buy it from CCP, actually. But they stopped selling it. Lasted of lemons, apparently.

Game prices aren't low now and they wont be in the future (£50 for a 360 game, they can cock off) They'll continue to sell games at the same price (or more) and gain more revenue through the advertising.

Although arguments about increased develpment costs may be valid, but then the sales of games are increasing.

As far as advertising goes I'm with Bill
By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself. Thank you, thank you. Just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day they'll take root. I don't know. You try. You do what you can. Kill yourselves. Seriously though, if you are, do. No really, there's no rationalisation for what you do, and you are Satan's little helpers, OK? Kill yourselves, seriously. You're the ruiner of all things good. Seriously, no, this is not a joke. "There's gonna be a joke coming..." There's no fucking joke coming, you are Satan's spawn, filling the world with bile and garbage, you are fucked and you are fucking us, kill yourselves, it's the only way to save your fucking soul. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show.

"You know what Bill's doing now, he's going for the righteous indignation dollar, that's a big dollar, a lot of people are feeling that indignation, we've done research, huge market. He's doing a good thing." Godammit, I'm not doing that, you scumbags, quit putting a godamn dollar sign on every fucking thing on this planet!

Yup. I would also be highly surprised if penny one goes to the actual developers from this advertising thing. Im fairly sure EA has made the advertising deal, and can you see them passing along the good fortune? I cant.

Jooses pet peeve #322: When people inappropriately use the word 'fact' to make their argument sound stonger. Other than in jest.

well i have read it in a number of credible sources, it's not the only factor in the matter but game sales are not increasing at a rate that will ensure game prices stay around the same prices and basically as long as the benefit of ads is passed on to the gamers rather than just buffing up some developers income then theres really no reason to be against the idea. In real life we accept advertising in every place that isn't private. As long as their done tastefully (which I'm sure they will be) then theres no reason for any debate.

No, there's plenty of room for debate, saying otherwise is a complete falsehood. I don't want in-game advertisement. With the small amount I watch TV I can't stand it, so having it in games would do my head in. Case in point was tuesday one of my mates was round, and we were watching scrubs. Every 15 mins we were subjected to charming ads for sheelas wheeles, health insurance and how to sue people.

I do not want this in games. FACT.

Surely this is more like semi-subtle Product Placement in tv shows than a Sheila's Wheels ad? It's not interrupting the gameplay- and even if it were it'd most likely be on Loading screens- as it has been in the past.

This is true. However, take TV advertising; at first it was just between shows, gradually it became every twenty-odd minutes, now the satellite and cable channels have ads within six minutes of a show starting.

I'm not suggesting that it might ever be this bad in games, but as gamers come to accept ads in-game I suspect the money-men will urge companies to take advantage of the available revenue.

Don't forget the last few Bond films either - how much crap did they advertise in, er, can't remember it's name off the top of my head. You know, the shit one with the invisible car?

I posted a YouTube link of Bill Hick's advertising rant somewhere - I don't think anyone clicked for fear of horsing :(

I don't like ads either but as we live in a capitalist society we have to accept being subjected to a certain level marketing, it goes with the territory. As games are becoming increasingly popular it's inevitable that new ways are being explored to sell stuff to us. It's not good but it's also unavoidable. If you don't like it vote with your money and don't buy the game, marketing depts are incapable of moral judgements it's up to us to let the companies know by not buying their product.

Perhaps BF2142 is the thin end of the wedge, we will have to wait and see and act according.

Those patch details sound good though don't they?

personally, advertisements don't bother me at all. If I'm walking down the street and i see a billboard, I'll probably glance at it but it won't affect what I'm doing or the frame of mind I'm in. In TV it's something we anticipate and expect so we tolerate it but ask yourself, would it be better if we had a static image on for 3 minutes in between shows? no, it wouldn't. So is it really that bad if the billboards we see in the game now were to display something different? as long as it's tasteful and in keeping with what you'd expect to see in the 2142 setting.

the best thing you can do about advertisements is just to encourage people not to buy whatever it is that is being advertised

God damn that pisses me off.
*show starts, gets past the theme tune, character says six words. COMMERCIALS FOR SEVEN MINUTES. 9 minutes of show. COMMERCIAL FOR SEVEN MINUTES... etc*

^ Why I do not watch any TV other than Discovery during lunch and the odd show just becuase it is on in the corner.

It is part of the reason torrents are so popular. I wouldn't watch any American shows actually as they broadcast them. No way.
