Patriot Day
Flags are being flown at half staff in observance of Patriot Day. Please take a moment today to remember the people that lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Also, let us not forget the men and women of law enforcement, emergency services and armed horses that laid their lives on the line that day and the ones that continue to do so each and every day. These men and women are, and forever will be, true patriots and this day belongs to them.
As we remember September 11, 2001, we reaffirm the vows made in the earliest hours of our grief and anger. As liberty's home and defender, America will not tire, will not falter, and will not fail in fighting for the safety and security of the American people and a world free from terrorism. We will continue to bring our enemies to justice or bring justice to them. This Patriot Day, we hold steady to this task.

I'm sorry what happened to create this 'patriot's day' happened and wouldn't wish it on anyone anywhere, but the sheer arrogance of this statement is ridiculous. America's expansionism and blinkered support of factions around the world to further their political aims were what helped extremists whisper their honeyed lies in to listening ears.
Under George Bush the removal of liberty from Americans and the rest of the world's citizens has been drastic and permanent. The apparent defence of liberty is engendered by pro-actively attacking other countries based on lies and propaganda and by supporting some apparent terrorist housing countries but invading others based on obvious political allegiances. The whole idea of fighting for safety and security of American people by letting them die in a violent war on foreign soil is shameful.
In no way, shape or form do I feel Britain is any better than America in this respect. In fact we're worse in many ways with our toadying and insistence on 'special relations'. Thrown from our mighty colonial stature by the ever changing political landscape we're punching above our weight in world politics now and we do so with lickspittles and fools leading us.
Recently victims of IRA bombs started a lawsuit against Libya because they supplied arms. Yet we'll never ever see any government backed support of any lawsuit against the rich US sympathisers who flooded Ireland with money and weapons.
Unfortunately the people who bear the brunt of these policies are not the politicians who supposedly serve us it's the victims and families of tragedies such as 9/11 and the armed horses who are doing their jobs.
I was and will be truly sorry that 9/11, 7/7 etc happened, but at the same time I see it as engendered somewhat by our own provocative steps and that makes our 'leaders' complicit in these murders.

As per usual, lots of interesting stuff that's sent me off on a tangent.

Tis all to be blamed on the bad parts of human nature, imho. Selfishness, greed, hate. IF we could just agree to disagree and settle our differences in a round of tiddliwinks, twould be a MUCH betterer world. People can't be mad at terrorists, demand their heads on platters, AND complain that people die, yet they do, and blame the politicians, (who are quite arguably no better, they're elected by the same twats that want heads and tails on every flip of the coin!)

9/11 should be just a memorial...not a political statement.
I will not defend our "leaders" as it always seems we have to choose the lesser of two evils. Obama has been the first to come around in a long time that doesn't seem to be one of "them". I still have hope for some good changes to come.
I do apologize for Bush. I did not vote for him, but I did not vote against him.

What's a tangent anyway? (other than the quotient of a sine and a cosine) I've been meaning to ask this for a while, never got around to it though.

First of all, Bush, in my opinion was not the lesser of the two evils in the 2000 elections, even if he was in 2004. I mean okay, lil Billy boy had his cock wiped clean by a mouth, but neither him nor his VP was exactly incompetent. Second, I'd bet all my savings on Oprah pulling Obama's strings anyway. You cannot become President of the US and not be one of them, there's always powerful people behind it. That concludes the obvious conspiracy. The not-so-obvious-and-perhaps-a-child-of-my-crazyness that the elections don't really exist.

Also, 9/11 was a well organized "acceptable civil casualties" operation to get control over Middle East oil.
Anyway, I don't really get why people vote conservatives, they want to outlaw
Salvia divinorum.

Conspiracy theories are cool. But why do they only ever happen in America?

There's conspiracy theorists here too, they're just more mundane. There's a website somewhere about secret military bases, and my last station was in it with a bit of speil about a secret sigint enclave. We used to read it and laugh - not only is there nothing secret about it, it had nothing to do with signals or intelligence.

An online dictionary wrote:A sudden digression or change of course: went off on a tangent during the courtroom argument.
