Not that impressed really. To me EVE has more depth than this and can handle itself a lot better when there's less going on.

I agree it looks good but ...

If Eve looked like that I'd be wondering why they rendered detailed planets that you can't land on, and everyone playing would be wondering why there's so much lag every time a ship gets destroyed.

OOoooh, want eve like that. Want eve like that now.

But yes, we would all need vastly improved machines for fleet battles to look like that.

Heh, that was my 1st thought too.

I think Star Wars explains the TIE Fighter noise by saying it's comms interference caused by it's engines, which is nice. I've also heard the excuse that it's generated by the ship to aid the situational awareness of the pilot.

I know its a realism thing but I wouldnt like space games to be silent, its far more interesting with sound. If you really want realism that badly just turn the sound off :P

Star Wars = sounds in space = good film

2001 S.O. = no sounds in space = fucking dull film

I'm playing a computer game, not MS space walk simulator

Star Wars... (maybe we should continue this in the movie forum...)

I'm a big fan of the original films. Yes, they were a bit kitsch and immature but that's part of the appeal. The thing that makes them for me is the attention to detail - all the incidental characters and locations look like they have a history, and the world goes on around the main protagonists. I love how the Rebel technology all looks like it's 10 years out of date and how the Imperial stuff is ugly and functional, it gives everything a look of gritty realism that the more recent films don't have.

The special edition adds more detail, but also adds some bad things like Greedo shooting at Han and missing from arm's length away, Han stepping on Jabba's tail, and celebrations over the death of the Emperor on Coruscant (which remained loyal to the Empire for years afterwards according to the continued fiction). I never liked the Ewoks much either - they were meant to be Wookies originally, which makes a lot more sense.

EDIT: Oops, Amblin already carried it on in the Entertainment forum. Two rants for me!
