Yes it was mentioned i think in the general forum but now we have an entertainement forum i think it should be moved to here. Here we go, what kind of anime do you guys watch/have watched? (no cartoon horsies and ladies roman ).

Personally i prefer Mecha anime e.g. Gundam, Evangelion, Detonator Orgun and Patlabor. I dont what it is that makes them so cool but i think its the idea of huge rompy stompy robots the size of flats and the guns to match which makes me go ooh and ahhh.

My favourite Anime film so far is Ninja Scroll



I am not really an "anime fan" but tend to watch the more popular anime films (dont really have time to get into the TV series much) such as Ghost In A Shell for example.

However recently I have been really getting into the Lupin III movies after watching Lupin III - Castle Of Caglisostro
I'll post more details on the anime and it's films later on, as it gets rather confusing as up to 5 different production compaines released a film with the character, making searching for it very dificult.

So yeah, anything that's funny, or involves lots of stealthy ninjas killing people gets my vote, but stuff like Naruto is a bit too "childish" for my liking.

The closest I ever got to getting into an anime TV series is the cartoon Monster Rancher
After watching it, I felt like a young lad watching Transformers all over again, even though I could guess the plot and knew what was about to happen, I was still transfixed.

Personally I'm a Bebop and Studio Ghibli man myself.

Studio Gibli released the Castle Of Cagliostro film I mentioned above (there was a recently a Studio Gibli season on Film 4 during the day, which is why I recorded it as it looked interesting) so it might be worth you sweeping it at some point.

What films would you recommend from them, as I only watched 2 (can't remember the second one) and the trailers for the Film 4 stuff looked really really good.

I identified a few types in the other thread, but I pretty much like them all. I started with the mecha and horror ones, but realised there's plenty of other great ones around, too.

In the 'cute girl, emotionless killers' section though are a particularly fine bunch which I enjoyed immensly, Metropolis and Howl's Moving Castle create fantastic alternative worlds, and the simple, silly and perhaps a little girlish Azumanga Daioh never fails to melt my cold, black heart.

I unfortunately missed the Ghibi seaon on film four, so I can only reccomend the ones I have, which are;

Spiritied Away, Nausica and the Valley of the wind, and Princess Mononoke.
I saw a snippet of Castle in the Sky, and it looked very pretty.
All the stuff that studio does is very high-quality, and some of it adult themed (in terms of violence, anyway).

I've got quite a few Anime films and series, I like loads of different styles, from the Ghibli to the Bebop and occasionally the silly stuff like Love Hina, I enjoyed Evangelion but choose to forget the ending, I also like the more serious stuff like Perfect Blue and Grave of the Fireflies.

Im not overly big on anime, but lately i thought i'd give a few episodes a go.
Ive become totally hooked on samurai champloo. Beat boxing samurai FTW!

Also ive been watching elfen lied on father jacks recommendation. Dayum, that shit is whack.

I went out and bought Barefoot Gen, it was a pretty good story!

Also, I saw the new version of Appleseed somewhere or other, can't remember for the life of me if I went to the cinema for that one...

Appleseed was weird.

Appleseed has robots sliding along on their feet, worth watching just for that.

I have the original on VHS, and it's always been one of my favourite "classics". Haven't checked out the remake yet, but I'm always a little concerned when people re-do stuff that was brilliant in the first place.

Of the ones I've seen, i like Akira and Appleseed, but my favorite is Devilman.

Nice, nostalgic style reminds of the early 80s when we used to get stuff like Battle of the Planets, Dogtanian and Mysterious Cities of Gold - usually via France, Spain or Italy. You kind of knew they weren't quite like US cartoons like Scooby Doo and Spiderman, they tended to have some odd bits left over from their european translations, so you couldn't quite put your finger on why they seemed different. Of course they were all made in Japan. I imagine the group grew up watching the same cartoons.
