DUST 514 is a console only, RTS/FPS MMO hybrid in development by CCP and set in the Eve Online universe. The details are sketchy, but CCP have indicated that there will be direct interaction between Eve and DUST514, insofar as the success or otherwise of the planetside teams will effect overall control in the Eve universe.

More info here. But as you can imagine this has already created quite a <s>stir</s> shitstorm on the Eve forums - a PC based MMO being directly effected by a separate game played by console jockies? While very interesting and progressive thinking from the developers, it remains to be seen exactly how they'll implement it. If done well, it'll certainly be an innovative way of expanding your player base.

I like the idea. I like having more integration and the MMONG is the perfect vehicle, in my opinion. I can see how the big alliances might not like stuff being under the control of something they can't influence though. Just hope it doesn't turn out like Tabula Rasa, although that might have succeeded on the consoles.

So I take it that the console players will be doing something on planets (at least primarily) rather than space shenanigans?

Edit: Reading a little further, particularly about the dust players being part of territory control in eve... the eve players are going to be going absolutely insane *goes to check the eve forums*. I don't know if I like the idea of my gaming being affected by someone on a different system playing a different game all together, but that kind of cross platform cross game connected universe is an amazing and very ambitious idea

A pick-up and play console space flying-shooty game where you just pick a ship and go shooting (with manual consoley controls) where you appear in the Eve universe as a pirate instead on NPC might be fun. I was always too scared to do anything with the ships it took me 2 years to afford.

However, since this has RTS elements, it won't be that. And it says it's planet-based.

There'll be more planets in EVE than there will be Dust players, I have no idea how it'll work
