http://digg.com/playstation/PS3_Slim_si ... nux_or_PS2'; At this point, would-be PlayStation 3 buyers have two options: wait until next month to get the ultra-hip
PS3 Slim model for $300, or plop down
that same figure now for its chunkier older brother. As far as we can tell, unless you're absolutely dying to load Linux or another OS on top of the console, or have some strong aversion to matte finishes, there's really no incentive to purchase one right now without a more drastic price cut -- or if you're really lucky, perhaps you can find one of the older, discontinued models that
can still play PS2 games.

Kind of want.
I traded in my PS2 for a PS2 Slim but considering i'd be losing the Backwards Compatability of my PS3, I don't think it's worth it.

I forget what they are now, but there's actually some games coming out next year I might be interested in. And while the slim PS3 isn't going to win any awards for beauty, it's not as ugly as its older, fatter brother. So yeah, I'm considering getting one soon.

Anything's better than the dust-attracting skyscraper of arse, although it is a little disappointing that the slim is pretending to be a PS2, with the rough plastic and new-old angular logo.

The curve is a bit annoying as the controllers keep falling off whenever I fart near it which is quite frequently. I recently put a 320G disk in mine though, so it's much better than any of those.
Wouldn't mind PS2 compatibility which someone hinted as a potential future update in software, but my PS2 remains PS2-compatible.

I'm still undecided on which sandbox game I should get, prototype looks repetetive and I don't know all that much about infamous, any other suggestions?

I've not played Prototype but I get the impression they're much the same in terms of gameplay quality. inFamous isn't amazing, just good fun and kept me interested until the end. Crackdown is still probably my favourite of the genre, but that's on the 360 only.
And I also prefer the look of the original PS3. I immediately thought the slim PS3 looks cheap and tacky in comparison. I have a similar setup to amblin, only with more stuff on two shelves, so nothing is put on top of any of the devices. There's even an old Xbox in there purely to block the flashing lights of the router and cable modem.

inFamous has more varied missions and from what ive played a much better storyline but isnt quite so fun for just general arsing about and silliness. wheras prototype the side missions are really repetitive with a pretty poor story but has some cool powers and is great for just running around and kicking helicopters out of the sky and such
saints row 2 has been my faviroute sandbox game in a while, obviously theres no crazy super powers but i found it much more fun than gtaIV as the side missions arent take a mate out to dinner or go bowling its stuff more along the lines of drive round and destroy as much stuff in 2 minutes as you can, or dress up as a cop and go out and cause some police brutality on camera etc etc and the story missions are quite good aswell but it never takes itself seriously though this isnt a bad thing

Rewatch Zero Punct's reviews, Mr J! Now is a perfect opportunity!

I think I'll have to go for saints row 2, it looks pretty ugly from what I can see from it on the webs, but I can't pass up on the opportunity to dress like a tranny.
I always get sidetracked on sandbox games anyway.
And I'll probably pick up infamous and prototype when I find them in a bargain bin somewhere. Or secondhand.

I think the new PS3 looks a bit like the Megadrive 1 from the front.
I didn't get on with inFamous, the story bits took all the fun out of the game. The reverse was true with Saints Row 2 - the story is quite fun, whereas being forced to do the side missions to be able to progress the story felt like work. But in Saints Row 2 you can look utterly ridiculous while doing it, so it wins.

that is very true, although its not too bad as its usually only 1 or 2 side missions till you get the bar full, plus this fills up from various other things like shooting people in the nuts and driving like a bit of a nutter so it quite often fills up the bar while you do the main missions, plus theres enough of a variety of the side missions so that you dont get bored of the same thing before you finish the main game

It operates at a lower volume, that's enough of a reason for me to sell mine and pick this one up.

Seriously?
Mines as quiet a mouse. Only when it's Sahara like weather does my fan kick in and even then it's nothing really. Much quieter then the PS2.

Looks like the price drop is straight away, with PS3 bundles of LBP or inFamous being sold for £250 at places like Comet.
