Digital SLRs

Good afternoon, 5punkerers.
Today's Soloman-question is about Digital SLR Cameras.
A while back, i managed to bork my Sony cybershot, i am now in the reigon for a new camera. On my epic quest of life, i am becoming more and more interested in photography, and would like to enter the wide world of SLR photography.
As my birthday is soon (21 days

) I will have teh moneys! (i'm not that rich either, i have been saving for a while allready) I'm looking into a entry level DSLR around the £500 pound mark.
Generally i am looking for something with a fast shutter speed, image stablisation of some degree, and a good ability with low light level conditions, as i will be mostly taking pictures of live bands at local music venues (and therefore tripods arent ideal), self portraits (LolOl), and moving things : D
After a little bit of looking around, the Sony DSLR-A100 seems a good choice for a first camera, thought this is a bit of a stab in the dark, i am not the most well versed in digital cameras.
Any help or suggestions will be much appreicated
Cheers ^-^

My photography teacher swears by the Nikkon D50 or the Canon 350D.
I'm getting the Nikkon D50 with a 18 - 70mm Lens, which costs pretty much £500 spot-on.
Can't go far wrong with that.
Grab yourself a UV felcher to prevent scratches on your valuable lens, too.
Edit:
ZOMMMGGG! ZERGLING!
KEKEKEKEKEKEKE ^___^
Edit:
Ps. If you have big man-hands like me, the Nikkon is far bulkier and easier to hold than the little Canon.
The Canon practically slipped out of my hands when I tried to grab it properly. Fact.

Around the £500 mark, i could strecth to £600 possibly.
I had considered the D50, but it seemed a bit bulky o.O

The Nikkon D50 and the Canon 350D are practically identical, apart from the meagre 2 Megapixel difference.
If you didnt like the bulkyness of the Nikkon (Or you have ladyhands?) Go for the Canon

i'm currently saveing up for a 350D
i have a pair of canon lenses already, so that tipped the skales
the pentax k100's look pretty cool too
they have IS in the body rather than lens, but they aren't cheep
on closer inspection, i wouldn't go for the k100, seems to be made on the cheep slightly

it was about the price of a new 350D from jessops and I swear I couldn't tell it apart from a brand new one.
although it can be a bit pot luck, but if you don't like it you can send it back
PS sorry for the thread necrophillia

I got the Cannon 400D with the Kit lens (it's not
that bad a lens) + a UV felcher for spot on £500 from jessops. I was going to buy it from Digital Depot, but they're stuck up cunts that wont beat down the price even though i'm parting with a good £500 and a bit quid.
They were going to charge me £530 for just the camera....
It was £487 from Jessops without the felcher

very nice, what difference is there between that and the 350d other than the self cleaning sensor?

Bigger LCD which turns off when you bring you eye to the eyepiece, and a bigger sensor i belive... Not 100% on that.
+ 2 more mp.
