Ok so we have all watched hundreds of films in our time but has any of the music truly struck you as fantastic? Be it backing music, song or opening titles (star wars is a big one) name the top 5 tunes that always bring back memories for you.

1) Star Wars opening credits: always reminds me of the time me and my granny watched 5 of the films in one day.

2)Jurassic Park as they approach and leave the island: truly impressive and spooky at the same time.

3) Ali Ababwa from Aladdin: Just one of the catchiest songs from any film ive ever seen, superb tempo and Robin Williams is brilliant as he changes voices.

4)Jonny B Goode in Back to the Future: Brilliant version of an already fantastic song.

5)Hakuna Matata: Another one of those fabulously uplifting disney songs.

This took a bit of thought as there are so many i like but these 5 always stick out.

The lord of the rings soundtracks. It's the only classical music on my computer.

The Lord of the Rings score and music from Eternal Sunshine.
Star Wars is a given, there's nothing more stirring than the Imperial March.

The terminator theme tune is epic.

are ones that spring to mind, although I agree with the ones from the three trilogies above. The cantina music in Star Wars was my favourite track as a kid.

Some horror series like Halloween and Omen have had memorable soundtracks, too.

Also, even though it's Vangelis and very 80s - Blade Runner.

I'd say Star Wars too, especially the Imperial March. The opening scene of Empire Strikes back is brilliant anyway, made better by the music. Star Wars was made to normal classic pieces before John Williams wrote the score for it. I suspect the Imperial march was based on Mars from Holst's Planets Suite.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy also had an excellent score. I think Star Wars was the first epic in a long time that used an orchestra like that with reral classical-style pieces, and LOTR went back to that too. Pity the music from the trailers was never used in the films because that was really good.

Muppet's Treasure Island, in case anyone hasn't noticed, is a particular favourite of mine. I love the silly, irreverent comedy of it all - especially the music. Stadtler and Waltdorf are my idols, and the fact that it all revolves around pirates makes it a recipie for success (for me).

Anything by Danny Elfman is usually pretty good. He seems to be able to fit pieces to be appropriate really well, and you can always spot his work (usually in conjunction with Tim Burton) a mile off. The Simpsons theme was done by Elfman.

I know it's not a film, but the music to Band Of Brothers is really powerful. It's undoubtedly connected to the emotion of the series itself, but hearing it always has an effect on me.

Honourable mentions also have to go to:

Blade Runner: I like the main theme, and while the rest of the music is a bit arty for me it certainly fits the atmosphere. Jean Michel Jarre I believe.

Bill and Ted's: Anyone who has ever liked metal has got to love this. First introduced me to Megadeth.

The Terminator: The main score's powerful, and the music (of sorts) that plays when the Terminator is stalking the heroes is really chilling.

Blade / The Matrix: For both the same reasons - well choreographed fights with good, fast music. Plus Matrix had Mindfields by The Prodigy in it.

Most Tarantino stuff: Okay, so a lot of people think he's an arsehole but you've got to admit he almost single-handedly made 70s music cool.

Platoon: Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now also fit for the great 60s rock and roll you get in these films, but Adagio For Strings in Elias's final scene is really powerful. See also: Battlefield Vietnam.

The idea was from 2001, though of course - particularly the realism factor of not having any sound in space.

Charlie's Angels had The Prodigy too, though - so it's not all good.

Ah yes, the Millenium Falcon originally looked a lot like the ship from 2001. In the end they used the model for the Blockade Runner from the first scene.

Also, The Prodigy is all good. The films their music is in aren't necessarily (but I still like Blade, and Blade II, but Blade III was poo).

Oh yes. The Matrix. Almost forgot that one.

I love the main theme from Brazil, the various renditions of it. Also seems to stick in my head when ever I hear it and end up whistling it badly for the rest of the day.

I like the Donie Darko original score.

Well, apart from the various ones listed above that I agree with (yes, John Williams *is* movie music), theres these that I like:

Shawn of the Dead - has some cracking remixes of stuff
Any of the Mariachi Trilogy - I fucking love anything with spanish guitars. The electric guitar version of Malengua is particualarly funky.
Dead Like Me - Im not sure there is an official album, but ive got a few tracks that were used in this program. They are frequently mental.
Clerks - "Would you like some making fuck, BERSERKER!" Says it all, really.
Shrek 2 - Anything with Frou Frou *and* Nick Cave gets my vote
