There's a US site called CinemaNow which lets you download DVDs on a rental basis. Anyone know of an equivalent UK site or anything that's recommended?

Never heard of it. Seems like everyone is doing Netflix here in the US.
Something like $10/month for unlimited content streamed thru their box or an Xbox360.

Dunno if its UK accessible though...

Nope, appears I was looking at Amazon.com, and it won't let you watch in the UK. Amazon UK has no equivalent service, so back to the first post. Anyone?

In other words, No.

You could use a VPN-like thingy though, such as Hotspot Shield, I use it every now or then for Hulu.

I've seen talks but no actual dvd to pc/console on demand time restricted film service. I think it's covered more by sky/virgin et al offering it through on demand tv versions and places like blockbuster/lovefilm offering good deals on hard copies through the post.

Plus the decreased bandwidth of the average UK householder compared to rest of world would no doubt reduce margins.

editz -Like buzz alluded to, take a look at torments and abuses, you'll find plenty there. :sweep: :P

There are some on Xbox live - I watched Forrest Gump on it the other day. Not a massive selection and quite pricey for a 24 hour rental - the options Pete mentioned represent better value.

iTunes and LoveFilm have rental downloads, though I've never tried them.

edit:Oh, looks like LoveFilm is moving toward streaming, which is less useful.
