Sherlock Holmes (Christmas 2009)
I got all warm n fuzzy...then I saw who it was and he was making silly jokes.../sigh
Although, Rachel McAdams in the bedroom might be worth it...

I dunno, it could be a good retelling. It won't be classic homes as Hollywood have got a hold of it, but it could be good.
At least they've cast a Brit as Watson, shame they couldn't do the same for Holmes.

Is this an hilariously inaccurate type thing, like that Churchill one?

I don't like jude law much and I can't honestly think of a young british actor capable of portraying the role any better than downey jr. It's been hollywoodised and as such bears little to no resemblance with actual conan-doyle characters. I'll watch it as if it's a kind of sister film to the league of extraordinary gentlemen, which was a bit shit.

Is there a favorite Sherlock Holmes novel among the 5punkers?

I've yet to read any Holmes stories, but from what I gather they sorta left out his ninja skills and morphine addiction in most of the movie adaptations, and at least this version does something about that.
Offcourse, it being a blockbuster means he'll be a ninja morphine junkie.

Of his short story collections I like 'the memoirs of Sherlock Holmes', the second set from Conan Doyle.
Of the novels I think everyone likes 'Hound of the Baskervilles', but my favourite is 'The Sign of the Four', it's a better read than the first novel 'A Study in Scarlet' and in my opinion a better story that the hound.

This looks stupid and that's about all the consideration it deserves. Maybe a little more: I hope Robert Downey Jr. does a cockney song and dance number on the roof tops dressed as a chimney sweep.
No one and nothing can beat Jeremy Brett.

Basil Rathbone disapproves of this faux-holmesery as well!

Anham you are wrong. Wrong! Brett is supreme!
Rathbone looks closer to the paget drawings, but his Holmes if inferior by far to Brett's scary faced genius type portrayal.

Amusing anecdote: I told my missus they were going to make a new Holmes film, to which she replied:
Mrs. Johnson wrote:But how are they going to do it? Do they put people in mice costumes or something?
She assumed I was referring to
this.
Immediately afterwards she realized what she said though.
