Presumably as part of a major fight back against its own upcoming spiritual sequel
Champions Online, NCSoft's venerable superfolk MMO City of Heroes/Villains (I've said it before and I'll say it again - still the most fun I've ever had in an MMO, even if it's a rare day that I venture back into it now) has announced a big-ass new expansion,
Going Rogue. One that purports to fills in that morally grey gap between hero and villain. I always thought that was 'politician' or 'gym teacher', but seems as though it's a little more complicated than that.

You know what would be cool...all zones open to both sides (pure chaos)...or like how they are doing the "invasions"...they could have heroes/villains invade 1 zone at a time and you have to make them retreat...

Merge CoH with CoV. Allow worldwide PvP. Watch stuff explode.

Thing is, CoH/V on paper is better than CoH/V in reality. Unless you're all pretending to be spartacus (still possibly the funniest thing I've ever done in an MMO) or being equally silly then it's so repetitive it gets painful. So all that this is going to achieve is some people playing it for a bit, remembering that every mission is essentially exactly the same and piss off again. Which is a same, as I do miss flying around in a pink fairy suit.

Yeah, well it's not even slightly addictive, you basically pay for posing in pink spandex soooo...

You could just come back and fly around in big brown blocks CCP calls ships. We have blue space vaginas now.

CoX would need a massive overhaul to get me seriously interested again. Bigger areas, more diverse and detailed story lines - and some fucking variety to the generic office/sewer/cave missions.
They also need to improve the starting areas. I'm weeping just at the thought of slogging through Atlas and the Hollows.
Oh, and a better range of powers - the upgrade they did a few months back was just bloody poor.

The only time upgrades are worth it is when they introduce a new set of powers like archery and dual blades otherwise its minimal and always has been.
I agree with all the negatives about CoX but, I've used it as a theraputical device. I follow people around thru the repetition, killing things just to keep the voices in my head quiet for a bit...
Although, I did enjoy running thru each side about 2x cuz I liked my toon and had a good set of friends that played all the time.
CoX is fun...but fun for a limited time unless repetition = fun to you. I just bounce in for a month when they add new things. Besides, $15 for 30 days of mass killings is quite good for the mind and soul

I assume roman was referring to the villians/heroes power mashup thing, which was most weak.
I do enjoy CoH as a drunken timekiller, but it is bloody repetitive, so I don't play much at all any more.

So what they really could do with is a new game which does all of the above. If only someone were doing a sequel...
