Exercise in suicide

Last night, I had fully intended on getting into Eve early and doing some ice mining with Friz/Mano. Unfortunately, RL is tough with back to school shopping, Legal Shite with my wife's ex, end of semester time for my wife, and being relied upon to keep 8 other people busy at work, so I didn't get on until almost 1:30 AM your time. :( Started off well though, headed to the Fw4ppers POS to do some mining, and Fear graciously moved a badger there for corp use to haul for me. Then RL exploded again, and it took me another hour or two to get back to Eve. By then just about everyone had logged, I don't have a hauler at the POS that I can fly, and I was just plain STRESSED from RL, so I decided to take on a DS. The closest one that I felt like doing was only 4-5 jumps, a rogue drone one, ones that I usually do well with, but it was a level 5 and I in only a cruiser. So I did it anyway. :) :excited:

Finished the first room fine, and was doing well on the second, except for the fact that there were so many drones, and to keep alive I had to aggro very selectively and run alot, so it took some time. I was approaching the last 4 drones, and had just gotten aggro, when 5 respawned on top of me.

For those unawares, a level 5 is the first level of DS that you can take a BATTLESHIP into, cruisers are usually only taken in when a gang of them go...

I was in hull almost immediately(32% remaining), but luckily had the foresight to be aligned and had autopilot set. I lost only 5 Infiltrator drones, and had full armor before I got to the gate. I hadn't found any key though, and knew many drones would be respawning, so I went back to the POS to get a hull repper, and repp'ed hull as I reloaded my drone bay at Hoth with Spear's new stock of drones.

While refilling drone bay, I discovered that the insurance on my vex had expired an hour earlier. Evidently the insurance company was lucky, as that was the closest I'd been to death in months. So my insurance offset everything I'd made ratting earlier at the POS. So basically I got a bunch of alloys to show for my work.

Ratted at the POS a bit, then had to succumb to nature and sleep. :(

My regrets for being available mostly at work as of late, but RL is such atm. Back to ice mining in Maspah for POS fuel and recruiting!

SO, my point I guess... is if you're outfit pretty well, take your time, and don't worry too much about dying, align and be careful, you may be able to take on a dreaded DS solo. Try to stick to the level of DS that pertains to your ship though! Don't go two levels up!

Bah, those scandalous insurance companies! And they don't post you a renewal notice until you go to reinsure - like it's a mere afterthought! The buggers. Should be a Trading Standards Authority in Eve if you ask me.

But yes, deadspaces are fun. I used to solo a Level 2 in a destroyer when I first started out. Made about 1 mill a run and it was fun. I've solo'd level 4 quite happily in a cruiser but any more than that is very tricky. Well done!

O...k this post makes me sounds like a n00b, but where are the DS and how do I get to them. They sounds a good way to fully test my Caracal.

What level should I be going for?

First, look at my bio to see what level DS you can get your ship into.

Then, go to the map and look for a button that lists DoD or some such deadspace listings. It's under display settings I thinks.

Hover over the blueish green ones, it'll tell you the level and what's in it.

And make sure you're as careful as you can be! If it's on .4 or lower, have a wcs on. Align and be ready to warp out. Take support if you can. Pay up the insurance, and stock the fridge. We don't want to run out of beers when we come over to loot your stuff if you die.... :P

Most important, try not to get aggro all at once.

Ahh the days. To be fair those drones are bastards - the normal ones are easier. And Dessies have paper-thin armour. And my Rifters kick all kinds of ass (I was soloing L2s in them until we moved out to 0.0).

/me gets all misty eyed thinking of my Brawler
