I've seen the first two before and forgotten about them, the third one was a surprise of the A* grade. Rage has been tweaking my hype glands for a while now.
Zombies! -
The Killing Floor!
Crazy3d FPBTM (First Person Beat 'Em Up) -
Zeno Clash!
I've just seen
Borderlands and it's joined
Rage as something I'm really rather excited about. More wasteland wandering that quite possibly will shat all over Fallout 3. The long terms fans hate the art direction gearbox have made, I think it looks really good. I think it's excellent in fact.

Borderlands is a funny one. I was discussing it this week with Anery. It has potential, but the fact that they tout the huge number of weapon combinations and quirky single/multiplayer as their main drawing points, rather than gameplay and story, has us both concerned it might be overhyping itself.

There is that, but the few things they run the preview tester guy through sound like there could be plenty of stuff to do. Even if it's all a bit rpg/story-lite because of the sheer diversity of things they want to achieve.

Zeno Clash I came across the other day, I think Steam had a news article on it.
As this is a new game thread, be on the look out for the new Alien Breed. Team 17 have just released some art for it, and they've said a video is on the way. As a side note, if anyone remembers the version they were going to release in 2000, this appears to be a updated and expanded version. So it's quite promising, doubly so as they're doing a 3dRealms and producing and publishing it themselves after many years of development.

Re: Borderlands
Cel-shading's an...interesting direction. I've seen it done well and poorly on quite a few PS2 JRPG titles, where apocalyptic wastelands tend to be the norm rather than the exception, so it certainly can be pulled off, although I think Sega raised the bar with the Canvas engine used in Valkyrie Chronicles.

A new Alien Breed? Crikey, we were only talking about that today too (I work in a team of gamers; three PC and one console). I think it stemmed from the cheat code that caused all the aliens to disappear and prompted the text "Beware Aliens, Spadge has dropped one". Personally I can't see it being anything more than a cheap 3D version of the original, like Shadowgrounds.

These would appear to be pre-cel-shading. Although I think it's produced differently to cel-shading, scanning the concept art and re-shading it in the engine or something like that.
If it's like that with the new art direction, and doesn't suffer from a port if it's 360 lead console then I think it'll be plenty fun.

I imagine so, it must be 15 years old now at least.

Not as such, as abandonware is normally from dead IP holders, T17 arn't dead.
It is however, freely available and condoned by Team17 on their semi official site:
http://www.dream17.co.uk/
Amiga versions only natch. No idea where you'd pick up the original PC version now Underdogs is still half and half (it's back, but not got downloads available yet).
You could play Alien Breed Obliteration:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/xavnet/alienbreed/
which is a pc remake of the '92 Special Edition. Also condoned by T17.

RIP Underdogs. I don't know what happened to them, but I reckon they did more good than harm.
