Right, I don't really do anime unless I want to rub one out over some tentacle raep porn.

I've recently got back into the old comics/graphic novels as a result of buying a replacement copy of watchmen. I wandered into a travelling man on friday and bought wasteland volume one because it's very post apocalyptic dystopia, plus I like the art style. I also got some slaine, some punisher and a copy of issue one of the zombies that ate the world.

I intend to pick up Y - the last man, marvel zombies stuff, top ten and ex machine on the recommendation of Joose. Also I'll be buying more punisher, more wasteland but not more slaine or the zombies that ate the world, Neither gripped me that much.

Anything else you think I would like? I tend to steer clear of the big names because all the sidetracking and story arcs and different styles etc piss me off.

More apocalyptic, mental, zombies, not too fantasy please!

anime manga

That's all I buy in the area of comic books though, so can't recommend anything. Not really interested in western comics for some reason, perhaps because like Pete jokes that all anime is tentacle rape, I kind of see western ones as endless superhero vs superbaddy fights.

Exactly what I avoid. It gets complicated, they never really die and it's got too much back story for me to bother trying to get in to.

In any comic store I generally bee-line for the independent releases.

Often true, but if that's what bugs you, you could always go for one of the many that don't actually *have* superpeople in. They tend to have less superhero vs superbaddy fights in.

I just cant get into manga. Ive tried a few times, and it all seems to have a very different idea of what a storyline is. One of my friends once said that he cant get into western superhero stories because he doesn't like the limitations they seem to have. I like them because they make some kind of sense.

Western superhero stuff nearly always at least *attempts* some rationalisation to help with your suspension of disbelief. Manga just seems to go "Fuck that, look how cool this guys hair is! He's obviously powerfull! Why? Who cares!"

I have a grand total of two comic books, neither of which seem to be in your designated areas. Maus might be though. It's got nazis, and people talk about it in hushed tones.

For reference, I have Persepolis which is semi-autobiographical, and The Power of Negative Thinking which doesn't have any fighting or crazy hair.

The only comic I have is both volumes of Jamie Smart's BEAR. It's about an animated stuffed bear who is repeatedly tortured and tormented by a bipedal cat with psychotic mental disorders. Well I like it.

I also have We3. Someone here recommended that. It's alright if you like animals in powered armour murdering things with specialised weaponry.

Neither of those are what you're looking for. Ha!
