MP3s, where do you buy yours?

I've been organizing all my crap, and I've decided that I've no real need for CDs anymore. With this in mind, where is everyone buying mp3s from these days? Ideally I want them DRM free and the option of downloading them in case of something bad happening - steam for music.

I daren't admit it, although my source is now DRM free. No re-download option so backups are essential in my case.

:above: This.

I sometimes feel that an album is good enough to warrant monies, but usually it's cover art/idea/marketing spiel is too so I generally buy a hard copy.

:above: if I buy music, it's on CD.

All of mp3 needs reviving and making legal, they had it right.

It's generally for the bands I feel like supporting, as I will probably still find the majority of my music on the floor. I know the actual contribution to the artist from a purchase is minimal, but it makes a difference to me. Then again, you probably can't get a lot of that to download anyhow.

I'm not buying any music long as even one penny of my money gets to RIAA or MAFIAA.

I really like Royksopp and Daft punk, so I bought Royksopp's latest album and Daft Punk's Interstella 555 DVD,on Play.com.

I'm such a rebel.

I guess I buy CDs, but I've only bought three in the last twelve years, all by the Prodigy. I bought an MP3 off iTunes once, but it was all arsey about being played twice so I converted it to a WAV and back again.

I go on new music sites and buy interesting stuff sometimes, but I never bookmark them as they don't seem to last very long. I'm in favour of stuff that lets you just buy the tracks you like as very few albums don't have a shit song or few on them.

:above: Well priced, good range, no DRM (usually), multiple formats, re-downloads. Good customer service too.
Not as good as a CD, but if you want to cherry-pick tracks it's great.

I'm still stuck on CDs. MP3s are handy enough but I've yet to buy a single one. It either gets ripped from an original or I sweep a couple of tracks from cr3 before I commit to the physical version.

I still don't trust/like purely "virtual" media enough.

You Love Her Coz She is Dead and Nick Drake are this weeks top tips

I buy CD's and rip for the most part, but occasionally I :sweep: up after people drop things on the floor (or for random single tracks).

I buy my MP3s at AmazonMP3, as they have decent quality and generally good prices to boot.

When I do buy them that is.

I'll start when I can buy it .flac or another lossless open standard.

The few you can get now are more expensive than CDs.

I tend to just buy a CD I like and convert it to MP3 myself. I think Ive bought 1 MP3 in my life.

I have a rule, if I download 2 or more MP3s by one band I'll buy their hard copy album (unless I would never admit to liking the band in which case all bets are off)

And iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, GroupieTunes, and LaLa. I could put them up on Amie Street and Shockhound if I cared but I've not made any money so far (probably because I give my songs away to anyone who knows me).
