little problem with chopper.

goodday dear sticky bastards.
i am having a small problem with my chopper in BEEF. you see, normally, when you are in the gunner seat of an attack heli, you can place a "target point" (or whatever you call it) on a target with your (at least, i my case) second mouse button. my mate can do it, while i can't. it's nowhere in my options, and its hard to hit something while your pilot keeps going in circles. please help, please do.

I'm never that good with the TV guided missile things. Don't you tap fire to place the thing, then press and hold it to fire/guide the missile?

i just press fire and then you can indeed guide it, but as i said, my mate can lock on to a target whilst in a gunnerposition and he has the same version of BEEF. i'll just experiment a bit more, i guess.

news to me, if you find out let us know that sounds like it could be pretty handy

I got in one of those fancy choppers the other day and sat there for a good five minutes waiting for the pilot to take off, not realising I was in fact, the pilot. I wondered why everyone was jumping up and down outside and trying to shoot me through the glass. Pricks.

allright, looks like gunslinger42 was right, if you tap fire once you can place a target cross and when you press again the missile will hit at that place. sorry for the confusion, i'll pay more attention next time.

I can never get a decent shot using those bloody missiles. By the time I spot a target we've flown over it. I'm getting better at flying them though.

i can do a pretty decent (i'm still awful at it though) job at flying a plane, and i can fly a transport heli just fine, but attack helicopters are an absolute nightmare to steer.

There's some hints
here. I wasn't aware that you had to click to adjust the trajectory after firing, I just tried steering it so it's no wonder I rarely hit anything.

Actually, you don't hold it down. To change the path of the TV missle you have to click where you want it to go again. It's hard to explain, but you can test it out on an empty server. basically you have to keep setting the target point by clicking. Honestly it would be a shit-ton easier if you could guide it Redeemer style.

This.
That link what Spoodie posted up there wrote:All you have to do now is to position your cross hairs in the direction of your target and fire. With the missile in flight, simply reposition your cross hairs in the direction that you need it to go and left click. By doing this, you will notice that the missile will follow the direction. You can do this multiple times to extend the missile's flight and aim right for your target. To exist the TV HUD, right click once again.
It's a right bastard, which is why it's important for the pilot to take a nice straight flight path to the target.

I used to be really shit a them, then I realised the server does not compensate any lag so I aimed about 2 meters infront of moving helis and get them nearly every time. I've even got jets trying to kill my heli with similar tactic, tho that was mostly luck. I also find the less corrections you make the more likely it is to hit, which is well, silly - but seems to hold true. When aiming for static stuff, or slow stuff like tanks, click right on them.
Additional 'Fear's Flying Tips':
When flying a heli, let the gunner do all the work unless you have to take something out fast (linebacker, etc) and the gunners just fucked the shot up and imminent death is very much the case unless the linebacker takes some missiles, etc, etc.
Hover high and do not hover still. 2x anti-tank and you're dead.
The best thing for taking out a chopper is with mounted-machine guns - they can't avoid them and normally don't know whats shooting them 'til they are dead. Same holds for killing a chopper in a plane - don't try and use AA missiles as the chopper starts to dive when it knows something has locked, making it harder for your bullets to rip it appart. 95% of AA will miss a chopper anyway due to their fast reload of flares.
When in a dog fight, have your plane set to bombs and get right behind the enemy plane. No lock on sound, he will have no idea you are there. When you are tucked in really close and he straightens up, switch to AA missiles, you will lock and fire before he can do a thing about it. :-) If they are doing a passover a carrier or runway you can gun them just as easy :-) It is much more satisfying gunning someone. :-)
If you are flying a chopper, be a medic. You can heal yourselves and some APC shots, etc can damage your health and kill you - even tho your chopper is bairly damaged.
Well, that concludes teaching my granny to suck eggs, but to some people it might be useful. Maybe.
I really hope they sort out the inbalance of the J-10s in this patch. Most missiles you fire at it miss, and most they fire at you hit. Very unfair narf. It makes being in a USMC Jet a waste of time if anyone half decent is in a China Jet.
Ooo just remembered, when piloting attack chopper the gunners tv missiles are centered about where your HUD of the gunners current direction indicator is, so keep a target there for your gunner. Most public people point to high for the gunner to even see the target.

Aye, I have been h'experimenting with the
'mash the mouse button for all it's worth because more [smaller] corrections means more accurate flight' method.
It doesn't seem to work.
