PSP 2 is ready and UMD-less, claims Earthworm Jim developer
We've lost count on the number of times we've heard from a friend of a coworker of a cousin whose girlfriend's stepfather happens to work at Sony and they're all but ready to launch a
UMD-less
PSP in 17 different color options bundled with a portable version of
Street Fighter IV. Typically, we remain skeptical, but when it's veteran developer David "I made
MDK and
Earthworm Jim" Perry, we'll give him the floor to speak. Earlier this week, his Twitter account updated to say he's heard the PSP 2 is done and minus that disc drive. He later reaffirmed that comment to
GameDaily, saying he can't reveal his source (naturally), but he feels certain UMD is gone. Is his source bunk? He's certainly a guy who'd know a guy, but we've heard this story far too many times to take a leap of faith now.

Didn't Sony say umd was gone ages ago?
Regardless, I may garner enough interest in hand-helds one day to actually get one. Someone better buy a psp2 and let me know if it's any good!

I generally would prefer something solid. Data can be lost. For some reason though I seem more inclined to buy off Steam.

I'm certainly more inclined to buy from Steam than PSN or Wii Shopping Channel. There's no re-downloads there. Even worse with Wii- you can back it up as hard as you please but it's useless when your Wii dies. At least PSN is account based.

I think the main aspect that Valve got right with Steam is to allow people to download their games at any time, on any PC. This base functionality is the key to Steam being such a great platform. At most you have to wait a few hours for your game to download. You don't have to contact anybody to beg for the ability to re-download anything or pay a fee so you can download it again in a couple years. It's always there for you to get.
