So what do you guys think about the radar changes to CS:S?

From steam update news:
Soon, we'll be releasing the first in a series of updates to Counter-Strike: Source which will be focused on moving the core Counter-Strike gameplay forward.
Hmm, I don't know what this will lead to.
The first update will include an updated version of the map Train, which will feature an HDR lighting pass, some minor layout changes, and a number of small bugfixes.
Blah blah
The second facet of this release will be a completely reworked radar system. There will be a significant change to the aesthetics of the radar, but there are also some fairly significant gameplay ramifications to the new system. One example: when you look directly at an enemy for a long enough time for their name to appear on your screen, everyone on your team will be able to see that enemy in the radar. We're planning on releasing this first update in about two weeks.
Oh my, it's almost like beef! Personally I don't think this will work that well in CS:S, it does in beef, but with beef the action is much more spread out than CS:S. It could make things in CS:S ... bad. Though most of the time people end up dead before they can look at an enemy long enough for their name to appear, so it might not be too bad.

I think it'll either be unused, or be shit.

Seriously, CS/CS:S has fans like no other game because it's simple, has optional tactics and doesn't need you to be able to hit 83 buttons at once to play well.

heh, oh that radar. In 97 hours of play I've probably looked at it maybe five times.

My eyes are fixed on the centre of the screen, trying to find heads to shoot - my awareness of where people are is either partly by rote of expected positions or by sound.

I find the game quite immersive when I reach a certain level of concentration, and even do weird things like cocking my head listening for people, or double-taking an area I thought I saw movement in. The radar kind of breaks that immersion and reminds me it's just a computer game.

I rarely use the radar as it is now. Maybe if there are only two people left on my team I'll have a look to see where the other teammate is. If he gets taken out I have a vague idea of where enemies are, and if he doesn't I might regroup.

The proof will be in the playing I suppose. In beef it's useful for someone with a short range weapon to spot the enemy rather than waste ammo or alert them to your presence but this doesn't really happen in CSS as much.

Well so far I like it. Very beef-like. After a half second of looking at someone markers appear on the radar, but after a second or two they go a deeper red and stop following the enemies path, then disappear right after.
