TF2 Scout update includes new bat, energy drink, 3 additional maps

In the days preceding this Tuesday's highly anticipated
Team Fortress 2 Scout update, Valve's been releasing a
slow trickle of news regarding exactly what goodies players will be getting in the download. So far, the pot's pretty sweet --
TF2's hyperactive class will now be able to unlock
"The Sandman", a new bat which hits baseballs that are capable of stunning even the most tank-ish opponents. Scouts can also pick up the
"Bonk Energy Drink", which will give the already expedient class an extra burst of speed for a few seconds.
The update will also introduce
a few new maps to the TF2 mix -- Arena_Watchtower, an expansive map with a focus on long, sniper-friendly sightlines; CP_Junction, a tight-quarters map that's more suited for the game's explosive classes; and
CP_Egypt, a "visually striking", Dustbowl-esque control point map. The update will also patch in some gameplay tweaks to the pre-existing CP_Fastlane map.
Oh, and the newly updated Scouts will also be able to unlock their
35 new class-specific achievements, which we've posted after the jump. Valve should be dropping further info on the pending patch tomorrow -- we'll keep our single-earphone-covered ear to the ground to let you know when the final tease drops.

bit-tech is usually OK. joystiq does duplicate a lot of the news we get from the other ones though.

It might well have been bit tech. I get annoyed by them too because a lot of their links have broken urlage in and my ocd side makes me fix them if I see them.

Okay so basically shotgun with knockback and you'll fly up if you shoot while jumping but 2 ammo capacity plus slower reload.

New features:
- Added The horse-A-Nature, The Sandman, and Bonk!
- Added 35 new Scout achievements.
- Added crit boosted on/off sound effects.
- Added new sounds for upgraded teleporters.
- Added new sound for a fully charged medic dying.
- Add bonus points section to scores.
- Scouts earn a bonus point for killing Medics who are actively healing a target.
- Added several new speech concepts, mostly hooked up to new Scout lines.
- Added new "Remember last weapon between lives" option to the Multiplayer Advanced dialog.
- Spies can now control which weapon the enemy team sees them holding. Hitting the "last disguise" key while disguised updates the disguise to show the Spy's currently held weapon.
- Added several new Arena mode announcer speech events.
- Added "First Blood" to Arena mode.
- Removed 2x item respawn times in arena.
- Changed backstab handling to fix facestabs.
- Spies disguised as enemy team can now see player IDs for enemies.
New maps:
- Added community maps: cp_egypt, arena_watchtower, and cp_junction.
- Updated cp_fastlane with Arttu's new version.
Mapmaker requests:
- Added new input for forward speed modifier to FuncTrainTrain.
- Added TeleportToPathTrack input to func_tracktrain.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed a bug where players would sometimes gib from non-gib damage kills.
- Fixed stat screen showing an entry for a class called "map."
- Fixed item model panels not using team skins.
- Fixed obscure bug where spectators were able to carry the flag.

Interesting. Can't rely on the equipped weapon as a spy indicator now.

It's fucking hectic right now. Spies keep popping up from the nowhere, guess I'm not used to the pyro with his axe equipped sticking a knife up my arse.
Health and following are the only giveaways remaining.

Oh good. That thing they 'fixed' ages ago is 'fixed' again. I look forward to being stabbed in the face some more.
They've made the spy a bit too easy with that weapon switch thing imo. It was a tough class to play, but when you get it right you can decimate a team in seconds. Sounds like some people whined a lot about having to learn to play.

It just means Pyro's have to spout some flame at their team-mates a bit more, which if you're a half decent pyro, you should be doing anyway.
And seeing "Hot Dog" mentioned on the shotgun pages reminded me of this for the chorus:

- Removed the damage reduction against non-stunned enemies on the new bat
- Players with full health can now pick up dropped sandviches
Fixes:
- Reverted the change that treated chat text starting with / as a command instead of passing it through as chat
- Fixed a crash related to baseball impacts
- Fixed the Heavy's hands disappearing when he's stunned while wearing the KGB
- Fixed the BONK! particles appearing in the air when the bat's taunt kill is used on a target
- Fixed horse-A-Nature description not fitting inside the item window
