Tesla Coils Playing Music
There is just something inherently cool about seeing two 8ft tall Tesla coils playing music. In addition to playing the theme from Doctor Who and other songs, there is a bit of interview action in between songs as well. Thanks to Brian and the crew at Geeks Are Sexy for this one:

Kinda cool, but with the background music etc, it loses a lot of win. IMO.

The logical progression of this:

They've obviously put a lot of effort into improving it and it's quite cool. But I'd worry about anyone that says "You changed my life, man". Although they were probably really stoned.

They are relativly simple, well tesla coils are. As soon as you get into solid state controllers for them you need sillyscopes and things.
Quite hard to get hold of a neon sign transformer that is 230v and high enough voltage too.
You can buy kits tho.

yes i know the schematics are simple, but i think actually going about making one is fiddley to get right.
Especially a solid state one that can "sing" - but that's what i'd really want

I'm convinced you have the power prof, just try to not electrocute yourself, and if you do put it on youtube!

hehe,
i already have a neon sign transformer that should do the trick. I normally just use it to melt CDs but it has been crying out to be put to a better use.
Problem is, all my electrical, pyrotechnical, and workshopical related stuff is back at my parent's house.
