Dungeons and Dragons Online

After the last Codemasters MMO offering "RF-Online", which made me want to gouge my eyes out with a spork, I fully expected to hate DDO - however, it is surprisingly brilliant - great fun solo, and more fun with a group - but it is a subscription game which puts people off instantly.
Luckily, there is an ample 7-day free trial on the website
www.ddo.com - if you can, give it a chance - it would be awesome to play this game with some fellow 5punkers.

hmm...when the monies return, I might joing you in this. I liked the beta/trial I had, but not enough to make me play. However, like ive said elsewhere recently, playing with fellow 5punkers makes all games better.
Plus, I fucking love the Eberron campain setting.
So, when I am no longer impoverished...maybe

Yup, loved the beta, but I am so utterly frustrated with the lack of anything different in MMO's I doubt I will play it.
Great game, I just can't be bothered with the endless slog of another MMO.

I played the free weekend, and wasn't impressed. And I really really wanted to like it as well.
Worst was the appalling framerate. Even just navigating the start town was a trial - the recommended settings are a little high for a game of this sort, designed to be playable by as many people as possible.
Second was the gameplay/difficulty. I tried a thief and warrior characters, but basically got pwned by even the very first training levels. Some of that may be my lag, or that I ignored all the boring bollocks about blocking. For me at least, a party was a virtual necessity. Trying to solo became exceedingly tedious very quickly.
While it's been said a lot elsewhere that it takes mates to make a good game, it still fails if you can't play solo at all.
To it's credit though, there are Elves all over the fucking place!

Agree entirely Jack.
When playing in a good party, using each party member to their best ability, it was very enjoyable. Trying to play on your own (even on the noobie quests) was nigh-on impossible.
I like team play, and that this game encouraged it was great, but the bias towards grouping was just silly, spending 40 minutes of every hour waiting for a group in the inns just got far too tedious.

As I understand from reading the patch notes, the Solo mode was only implemented a short while back - I found the first missions and harbour missions very easy, but anything on Normal was total mayhem - and anything over level 3 even on solo is hard in the Marketplace. It is still fun though - not had any framerate issues, but my PC is a beast.

Which is EXACTLY why I'm trying to encourage some 5punkers to play - then I'll have people to group with :D

Its not an MMO, but will probably free online like the first one. Its a game where it doesnt suck all your life away and can play with friends for an hour or two and still accomplish things and have fun.

I have done some stuff on the free trial before, although I was playing it as part of a LAN party with some pals, so basically we always had a party. It was very good, and I had none of these lag issues (I'm running on a Geforce5700 so its not even a good card). I wouldn't pay for it because purely, I wouldn't be bothered to play it alone, and even if we had some 5punkers playing, the chances of them wanting to go at my (Slow due to time restraints) pace therefore I'd still have to wait around for groups all the time.
This has possibilities for being very good, but for an MMO that you can play on your own (You get what I mean.. not without group of friends).. it loses to WoW (Not promising).

I used to play D&D. I had a very angry warrior-mage fella (magic using bloke who could also pur axes into people faces). Almost all of his most classy moments were the result of the enlarge/shrink spell (or whatever it was called), the best of which was shrinking a big bad guys plate mail armour mid battle. Fun times.
I also had a True Nutral Chaos Mage, but my fellow men found him....worryingly random.
EDIT: Shit. Now I want to play D&D again.
