CS:S Rates Tips

Yeah I Found Out That What I am On About ''Rates'' Is Actually The Amount Off Data Passed Between You And The Server mesured in Bytes per second I believe, By Defualt This Is Pretty Low And Kinda Makes Bullet Registration Lag, By Changing This The Bullet Registration Speeds Up And Shots Are More instant Than Normal!

In Console Type :rates

This Should Come Up With Something Like . . .

:''rate''=7500 bytes/second the host can recieve

This Can be Changed with another command . . .

:rate (number)

You Should Play Around With This Number Untill you find a level where it Is Optimal b/ps without increasing your lag, personally mine is set to :/rate 20000 , But I Am On a 1Mb line.

Finally To Check It has been changed

Re-input :rate

And The Message Will say . . .

:''rate''=(Specified Number) bytes/second the host can recieve

Well I Hope That Helps As I Saw A difference like you don't have to shoot in front of people to hit them ,BB gun esque.

MOD EDIT: Made the title look less like a scam email ;)

OTHER MOD EDIT: careful with this stuff kids, can cause a lot of problems if you fuck up

Note: Un-stickied by berk due to rates tweaking often causing issues for others, contents of this post being unreadable and stuff.

what version of CS is this supposed to work for? I tried it in CS:Sauce and it just kept saying "Invalid Command" or some shite like that.

i think in CSS the console commands dont start with a / like they do in q3 engine (the one i actually understand). Also for soem unkown reason you also need to enable console commands via one of the advanced tabs in the options screen.

I've tried it (yes, without the /) and I have changed the rate and whatnot. BUt I've come across a still constant occuring problem.

I still suck. :P

I got it, set it to 35000 because it was already set to 20000.

Whatever.

This is useful for when you're sniping etc. I guess. Not with a rifle but with a normal assault weapon.
