Welcome to General Gaming

Hello and welcome to General Gaming, the proverbial mixing pot of all those delicious games that don't quite fit into the <a href="http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewforum. ... Shooter</a> or <a href="http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=55">MMO</a> category.
Roleplaying Games
These games come in lots of flavours, both Oblivion and Fallout 3 were big hits with 5punk as they blended the action elements of First Person Shooters with Roleplaying, allowing us to pocket some cool loot and still be jumpy bastards. Of course, there's a following of even nerdier, beardier RPGs out there that we still occasionally play. Neverwinter Nights and Titan Quest to name a couple. Schedule a beardy game like this, and all the closet Mages and Rogues will soon creep out the woodwork!
Real Time Strategies
Be they massive scale build-a-thons like Supreme Commander, or troop-based tactical take-and-holds like Dawn of War II, RTS games have a quiet following on 5punk, but sometimes break out into the mainstream. Other popular games include the Age of Empires, and Command and Conquer series of games. Most can be found in the Scheduler.
God/Management games
Though not terribly popular in the washout of Spore, sometimes we get God Games pop up for discussion, and this is the place for them. The initial buzz these games provide is pretty good, but they can get very repetitive or drag on aimlessly after a while. (See. Tycoon games, The Sims, Sim City etc)
Console Games
Though 5punk games are generally PC based, a lot of the forumites enjoy a good console, be it a 360, Wii, PS3 or one of the handheld dealies.

<a href="http://5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=22355">PSP Firmware and Emulation</a>
Browser Games
Fantasy Football, Shartak or our old favourite Urban Dead for example. These are games that are played within a regular internet browser, and while there are hundreds of them floating around, only a few manage to hold our interest. However, when they do we're sure to leave our special mark on the local populace (See <a href="http://wiki.shartak.com/index.php/The_Waugh_Arms">The Waugh Arms</a> in Shartak and Malton's own <a href="http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/5punk">5punk group</a> in Urbandead). If you find a browser game that you think looks good, come here and pimp it out, chances are there will be a few of us that will come and check it out with you!

<a href="http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic. ... tionstates useful links</a>
Casual Games
Horrendously addictive little things that we convince ourselves we can dip in and out of at will, but more often than not manage to eat up our entire day, leaving us with a nagging feeling that we've lost three hours of the day some where. Currently Baliame is posting some rather good webgames on the Discussion Board. Other games include Steam flavoured favourite Peggle and it's massive family of PopCap brothers.

<a href="http://www.zachtronicsindustries.com/bs ... m">Beureau of Steam Engineering</a>
<a href="http://store.steampowered.com/publisher ... ./">PopCap Games</a>
Other guff
There are games that sort of fit into the above categories, but not quite. Though we don't tend to talk about the likes of DEFCON or Magic Online as much, this is where it'll end up.
<a href="http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic. ... 570">Other game information</a>
All of us on 5punk love playing games, and General Gaming should be a place where we can break up the norm of running around shooting seven shades of shit out of each other with guns as big as our legs, or from the dedication it takes to train a character on an MMO. If anybody has any suggestions on how to make this forum better, don't hesitate to contact one of the Mods and send us your ideas!
