The Jedi planet of Tython will apparently feature rather heavily in Bioware's Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic. The developers have talked in some detail about the development of this region in a new video, which I've posted after the jump. The brief segment on "reveals" in level design, is lovely indeed. And is it me, or is that game looking rather far along, considering how recently it was announced?

Well, looks like it'll be jedi from level 1 on a single player starting planet. I think maybe buzz's nightmare of lots of sabre wielding types will be the reality. I do hope they release a vid of a bounty hunter starter planet.

Even if you can be different classes, it'll mean that either Jedi are underpowered (or everything else will be overpowered), and regardless of that, you know just about 95% of the players will choose to be Jedi to satisfy their lightsaber fetishes. Shame really, as it's a vast universe of content.

This disappoints me also. Playing an MMO that has hundreds of Jedi running around it sounds horrible. Still, if the other classes are appealing then it might even out. Hell, if that's the case I might even enjoy it*.

I too was going to say "learned nothing from Star Wars Galaxies" etc, but I'll probably try it. Probably as a Jedi. The most ridiculous Jedi the game will allow me, a Wookie, Ewok or Mynock.

Unfortunately, the franchise doesn't seem fit for an MMO. If it's about Jedi/Sith, it's pretty much going in the SWG direction otherwise if it's about being a random trade federation droid or republic soldier.. well first I can't really imagine an MMO about that, and even if it would be developed it'd be exactly like Tabula Rasa.

Now on the other hand if I could run around like a killer Ewok, THAT would be awesome.

There's some brilliant races in Star Wars. I want to play the one that's a big blob of goo in a spacesuit.

Anyway, my point is not that the lore isn't rich enough (though an MMO would probably have a good chance of ruining it), it's that I don't quite see how you could implement it other than gazillions of Jedi.

The lore is pretty rich, but unfortunately it revolves around the whole Jedi thing which is pretty crap setting for a massively multiplayer game. My bet is it will be a one month "Oh look I have a lightsaber, but now I'm bored as fuck" type thing.

.
