After using Teamspeak with you guys on thursday...it makes me want to smash, burn and kill kill kill

Please, for the sake of all your ears, ditch that crap and buy a Ventrilo server. Its very cheap, and sooooo much better

...is one place to get one hosted.

It's been said before, but the thing is we get TS for free because berk runs it on bukkake. Vent would cost money whichever way it's done.

we host our own teamspeak because it's dirt cheap (under £5/month for 100 slots) and the only even *remotely* competitive ventrilo servers are US based, which adds lag, which is bad.

TS works fine in most cases, although some people do sound noisy (you and Hehulk for example). I'm sure Berk will elaborate on this, or correct me if I'm wrong, but a TS server is free (ie, Bukkake) and a Vent license for Bukkake costs money. Hence TS.
EDIT: Fucking ninjas. I'm sure I don't type that slow. This thread was empty when I wrote that ^

TS is not free, but it is massively cheaper than vent, which saves me money, and provides a service that's as reliable as possible.
not to mention vent only license to huge providers, which generally cuts out a lot of the smaller companies.
Of course, if you want to go ahead and sort us a 25 slot vent server, ideally uk/eu based, and tell us how to set it all up. i won't argue.

Despite all of this, fair suggestion Airos. Vent is better quality, it's true. It's been suggested a few times before (by the Eve guys for one).
Mind you, how good quality do you need Bobbins and Roman shouting ROBO!

We fear change!
*point at change*
*fears*
Despite having been told that Vent is better on many occasions (and having tried it on many occasions) I am yet to notice any difference; you get gash connections on Vent just as you do on TS.
I think part of the problem is we [5punk] are utterly undiciplined on comms and tend to shout/scream/hurl general abuse almost continually, resulting in a godawful racket at times

that!
also, vent is a pig-ugly little app - which makes it more hassle to get 5punkers to use.
and skype isn't really viable - the way it works makes it very bad for use with bandwidth intensive gaming.

Personally, I think TS is fine. I understand -most- people, with Hehulk and a few others being quite hard to make out but surely, this is because of their setups/microphones and not just TS?

I haven't heard or seen anyone using "gash" in that context since year nine.

Yes!
Sorta, I think ventrilo has some noise reduction/audio cleaning stuff built in, which teamspeak doesn't seem to have.
however, most of that sorta thing can be fixed by setting your mic up properly.

I don't know who has experience with Vent or what, but I have a friend in the USA with a server hosted in Virginia for peanuts in US $, therefore even less in £ Sterling. I've been chatting with him and the other guys that use it regularly over the last year and I can tell you for fact - it does not add lag to a game. In no way does it hamper performance, and this is a server across the Atlantic. I linked to a site in my first post that has servers in London. It is crystal clear, whereas Teamspeak sounds fuzzy and broken. My audio is set up correctly, I have only recently got an X-Fi and Logitech Z-5500 speakers and I painfully set them up correctly. Teamspeak is the only application to date that has sounded shit. Ventrilo, IMO, is a lot easier to set up than that Teamspeak was.
TS also screwed up my Vent audio settings, so I had to redo them as well
Anyway, nvm. I'll use Teamspeak

I don't think anyone implied it adds lag, and it might be better quality, but 5punk is a fairly 'horizontal' place, as such, ease of use is paramount.
The last time I tried to set up Vent I had to get a friend to log onto TS to walk me through setup

. TS can be installed and (in most instances) you can be gassing on 5punk TS after just a few keystrokes and mouse clicks.
