The latest release is now available using the Network Update feature on your PSP.

The following is a list of features/changes for the latest firmware update (according to PSP Fanboy) :

* You can now download video and image content under [RSS Channel];
* You can now register devices via a wireless LAN access point under [LocationFree Player];
* You can now play AAC files with file extension .3gp under [Music]; and
* You can now play content saved in "Music," "Picture" and "Video" folders on a Memory Stick. (Apparently, this means you don't have to rename video files, and you can play them without using special folders.)

I'm sticking a finger up to the homebrew stuff, and updating, as the RSS feeds and new content that will be available to 2.8 users only is enough to sway me into updating.
Pretty sure this will mean I will "never" be able to downgrade, but I'm not bothered, as I love the internet browsing the PSP provides, as I can now browse the internet whilst watching over baby Woo :)

So now all my shit on my Creative Zen Vision:M player can be played on the PSP too by just creating a folder called VIDEO, and dumping the files in there, without having to worry over the naming convention like I used to.

PSP Fanboy goes into great detail at what the firmware update provides such as Video RSS feeds and so on, and it sums it all up on the following article http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/07/27/2-8 ... aftermath/

As always, I will stick the firmware update in the /downloads directory (once I get home), along with any demos I download such as the new World Tour Soccer 2, Blowout: Mercury Meltdown and more...

Well 2.8 hasn't been decrypted yet but 2.7 and all the previous firmwares have so it'll only be a matter of time

With the Devhook application I can emulate firmware anyway so don't need to upgrade to do web browsing and RSS stuff

The not-renaming video is well overdue though, finally, well done Sony!

Every Game Demo available on the PSP has now been hunted for, downloaded, and uploaded into the /downloads area under the PSP folder.

In order to play all of them, you will need to have 2.8, and that can also be found in the PSP folder as well.

Loco Roco and World Tour Soccer 2 can both be downloaded direct from yourpsp.com, however the other ones are all manual downloads, so it's worth getting them from here to save the hassle of finding them and working otu what the folders need to be called and so on.

I'm not too bothered about homebrew on my psp, and people will always find a way around the firmware if you give them enough time, so I might as well upgrade to 2.8

Personally I pretty much only do homebrew, I'm still not bored of SNES and PC Engine emulators yet, and havent used my PSP for browsing at all. I think Devhook can emulate up to 2.71 now so I think I'll try that and get my wireless connection setup, I can wait for 2.80 emulation.

I've been playing the World Tour Soccer 2 demo, and I must say, seeing as I'm not a footy game fan, this had grabbed my attention, and plays differently to any other football game I've played before.

I might actually buy this :shock:
