Sound card dying

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Sound card dying

Post by Joose »

My sound card appears to be shitting itself.

Its a Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum, and has never really got on well with Fista. Its now starting to make evil buzzy noises instead of whatever its supposed to be doing.

Started in Fallout 3; starts fine, but after 2-3 mins of play all sounds get replaced by varying types of static. Then it happened a couple of times in WoW, but only for a few seconds at a time. Now, when I was playing L4D this afternoon, it started happening in that too. Similar to how it happens in WoW, but for longer periods of time.

Also: Mic doesnt seem to work properly any more (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, and even when its working the control panel insists that there is no mic).

What's the prognosis? Fuxxed? I would rather not have to buy a new one at the moment, if I can get away with it. I like the box thing, and would like any new one to have either that or a nice front panel thing, and all the ones with that seem to cost upwards of £100. I was hoping to upgrade my rather elderly processor soon, and cant really afford both.

It could well be Fista, I've not had much luck with my xfi under Fista for anything but output.

then, it's quite possibly a *very* old card now, so death isn't unlikely.

My creative card started the random static patches in games/TS before it died a total death.
