Between your holiday shopping expenditures and the economic burden of having to purchase the
billion great games that came out this year for yourself, you probably don't have any fat stacks of presidential flash cards just lying around your abode. However, if you find yourself in need digital stimulation on a budget, we suggest
turning your eyes to Steam some point over the next two days -- this weekend only,
Team Fortress 2 is half-price, going for a single crisp Hammy (the shorthand name for Alexander Hamilton, who's on the ten dollar bill. Try to keep up, people).
What? You're asking us if you should take the ten-dollar plunge? It's a first-person shooter where you can
carry around and consume a sandwich to restore health.
Of course you should.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

I guess numbers are dropping again if they're doing this.
I keep meaning to give it another go. But everything else gets in the way.

Yeah, yeah the usual shit isn't it? You guys just get bored of good games fucking quickly and decide to stick with shittier options.

We play games you don't because you smell like wee and boiled cabbage.
As for shittier - that's just, like, your opinion man.

Yes, it's just my opinion, but I'm allowed to have opinions, we don't live in the communism anymore now do we?
Still though, what puzzles me is that a game (say, Left 4 Dead...) comes out, everyone says how it's fucking great, heck everyone is about to build a fucking temple to Valve in the back yard and then suddenly everyone's back to their MMOs and it's only me and Slinger playing with an occasional flavor of other people. Quite an about-face I must say.

Why don't we have an edit button here again?
Well, while the smell thing you say may be a joke, I do have the feeling it's true lately. C'mon, just tell me if I'm too much, I might* mute myself
*not a chance in hell

Personally I've never liked TF2, and to be honest I'm not massively taken with L4D. Not that I'd get chance to play either now. As for MMOs, there's only about six of us on Warcraft, and Hehulk on WAR.

I'm personally waiting for all the modified classes to come out, but I might have another crack now not everyone is one class aiming for the achievements.

Personally, I think you do take it too 'serious business' at times, everyone's different though so I am in no way saying you shouldn't or expecting you to change to some 'ideal standard' way of playing.
My point about opinions wasn't some sort of barbed criticism toward you, it was that you think the games others are playing are shit, they don't. Or if they do, they still have fun playing it so why not.
As for why we love a game but don't play it? Various things for me such as the herding of bees, time constraints, can't be arsed to talk to anyone or getting bored of doing the same thing.
Case in point l4d - great game, but I've seen all the maps too many times already. I don't give a shit about achievements and there's only so many times you can run from point a to point b without it looking exactly the same as a previous run you did.
Another game - AOC - I've put 350+ hours in to it, did that in about a month, everyone got bored and left so I built a guild town with my own money then joined a different guild then left that and the game itself when I got bored. My main was 77, 3 levels away from maxed out and the end game sieges that made it all worth it, but I didn't want to waste my time in an effort to finish. I don't waste any effort in work and I get paid for that, I'm not going to pay to do something I don't enjoy any more.
To me the gaming here isn't about effort it's about fun, it's not about points or finishing as fast as you can or getting the most head shots. I do play like that, but try not to with 5punkers. And when things like screaming about catching up or someone being shit as the tank or whatever happens then the fun isn't there so much.
The fact is that I've got a lot on my mind at the moment and I really can't be bothered unless I know the game will be nothing but shits and giggles start to finish. Right now, that's not happening.

Very much so. Clans do that. We're not a clan.

A very good point, it's pretty much the same for me (odd or not, you can measure the amount of fun I'm having by the amount I'm screaming). Still, if people don't play anything, there's not much fun to have is there? (And I don't frequently see people play anything other than mmos)

It's been that way almost all year. It's possibly because there was such a drought that people found other things to do. Personally I'm playing less of everything bar Warcraft because most of the time I'm home I have her on my lap, so I can't play anything that requires two hands. That doesn't leave a lot of options.
I've noticed a lack of gaming too though, and it bothers me. I don't really know why it's happening though.

I love TEEF, I can play it night after night, L4D I bought and haven't played past the demo. It's just lots of the same boring zombies running at you. I suspect I'm probably doing it wrong tho.

I think it's more about the squealing panic over TS with L4D. I enjoyed that, but I can never get in on games on all but one of the few occasions I've tried because I'm inevitably late and the server is full. It's kind of put me off.

Here's my personal take on the last year or so on 5punk:
TF2: Fun, but some people go a bit serious business and play a bit un5punky, combined with the big gameplay altering updates, people get fed up.
CoD4: Fun, but well, you already know what happened there.
L4D: Good game, spoiled by the pressure to play versus, which IMO has the 2 weakest maps, doesn't stay popular because versus is crap without a full server.
I'm avoiding playing games on teamspeak nowadays just because I'm not finding it nearly as enjoyable as I used to.
As far as comments like

5punkers play what they enjoy at the time, I'm sure a lot of us can say the most fun they've ever had in a computer game has been in CoH, dressed in pink, chasing random people and humping them, or in jops, filling a boat with smoke and gaying it up.
No, they're not great games, but 5punkers have an ability to make a lot of poor games great fun*.
*and as proven recently, great games undesirable to play for various reasons.

I liked L4D a lot, but as mentioned it's replay value is quite limited.
I quite liked TF2, but not enough to keep playing it every week. As more and more updates came out for it I found myself getting further behind with what the different classes actually did. Never really been that arsed to back to it.
New CoD - not enjoyed it. I consider it to have been a massive waste of money.
The thing is, it's not just limited to new games. I stopped playing CoD:UO a long time because I think I've played it to death - I can't get the enthusiasm back and I doubt I ever really will now. CoD4 I still enjoy, I just don't play it that much.
CS:S - that bored me even during its halcyon days, it was only drunken TS that made it worthwhile.
As for getting bored with good games, this year has been quite poor for multiplayer games. L4D has been the best of the bunch, but even then it feels like a slightly extended demo.
WoW has had a bit of a renaissance recently - at some point it will probably die down again, these things always do. Just look at how many times CoH has died off, only to be resurrected a year later.
Personally I love drunken TS nights, but if a game loses its appeal I'm not going to make the effort to be honest.
Edit: I still play BF2/Special horses too. I enjoy the game but I just don't see it taking off on 5punk again. It doesn't bother me because I know not everyone has the time for it.

I'll play anything, frankly I miss you guys

I miss the noisy rabble of 10+ 5punkers on teamspeak falling about laughing and playing silly games.

You haven't actually said WHO is on your lap occupying one of your hands.
I'm going to assume Mrs. Pants.

I am teh sad that people gave up on TF2 and L4D, but I don't really mind, people play what they like and if they don't like those two games so be it. L4D I can especially understand people tiring of quickly because you either play versus and are stuck with just two campaigns or you play co-op which is worse because you can't have fun as a zombie and it tends to be even more boring and repetitive with AI specials. With that said though, I love versus even though it is only two campaigns, I don't think I'd get tired of punching people off the hospital roof, spazzing about as a hunter bouncing from wall to wall before landing on someone or vomiting on people even if there was only one campaign to do it on

Not that we ever actually play Blood Harvest
