Router dead

Hey.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v6 router.
There's a single wired connection that works fine and dandy.
My computer upstairs connects wirelessly, as does my dad's laptop, my PSP etc. None of the wireless devices in our house can see the wireless network anymore. I've had it appear once or twice over the last two days for approx 30 seconds, long enough to read email quickly, but that's about it.

Otherwise, the wireless capabilities appear to be well and truly fucked.
I've since both restored factory settings, and installed the latest firmware.
I don't think anybody has installed a faraday cage around it, so I'm clueless as to it's sudden death.

I think it's about 1/2 years old.
Should I cut my losses and get a new router, or is this fixable?

Ps. All the lights that should be lit up on it are, and don't appear to be any different from usual.
I've also reset the modem and router several times. Usual troubleshooting etc.

try changing the wireless channel on the router?

any new wireless points turned up in your area recently? I've heard stuff about wireless-n routers overpowering others.

You could try loading DD-WRT on it, though it might be a bit complicated.

oh yeah.

At my dad's company, the access point would lose connectivity if the microwave in the break area was being used. it took me ages to figure out because I couldn't see the break area from where I was working.

Bizarrely, I've heard of faults caused by microwaves (think this one was a monitor). In the end they refused to move either the microwave or the computer, and just put up with it. Users; the mind boggles.

I think it's time for chickenwire and some cheap pine, make yourself a DIY Faraday cage.

Only that'll probably do not much, or refuck his connection :P

Glad you fixed it.

Wireless channels can be a right cupcake. I've got a wireless router that "auto-selects" the channel with the most interference, shitty thing.

I meant for the microwave, but for Grimmie, granted, it would need to encompass his house, but it's a good way to be sure others arn't leeching either.

:above: but then, so's setting your router up properly :)

On the subject of the microwave, it'd probably be cheaper, easier and safer to replace it, as the casing/door should act as a functional faraday cage without modification. (though, as it's an American thing in this case, possibly no/poor grounding causing it to not function particularly well?)

Well the company has moved and I think they have addressed the issue already.

That is not the point. :)
