If England didn't consistently qualify for the World Cup the Scottish would never have anyone to cheer for ;). Of course if Scotland do make it to a competition I'll be supporting them as I would any of the home nations.

Anyway, to post something constructive: I thought England played a great game - to have it edge-of-the-seat stuff right up to the last penalty with a man down is good going, especially considering our performance in the group stages.

Personally they've played shit right up to the last minute. They havent won a single game dominantly and have fluked there way through. It was clear from the off that they were going out be it by goals or penalties. Hopefully now the bloody telly will go back to normal and ill no longer have to put up with shitty England football chants on my telly and radio.

Heres a point though why is Andy Murray in the tennis refered to as being British, why not scottish? Sure as hell if he was english that what hed be called.

Well here's my humble summary on how I thought some of players performed...

Rooney - played well considering there was rarely another England player within 50 metres of him. Regarding the sending off 1) ref should have blown for a foul on Rooney long before the incident 2) I know I'm biased, but the foot to the goolies didn't look intentional to me 3) Why did the ref only react after he'd pushed Ronaldo?

Crouch - why the fuck is this gangling spastic in our squad?

Joe Cole - played very well all tournament, god knows why Sven decided to substitute him

Lampard - I'm sorry but this has to be said: Frank Lampard has been one of our worst players all tournament. He ballooned several shots, missed a penalty, and was playing far too deep in midfield. With our lone striker, he was supposed to be pushing forwards to act as a secondary forward, and yet as mentioned above Rooney had no support whatsoever up front

Gerrard - similar criticism to Lampard in that he played a bit too deep (and missed a pen), but he was still an all round good player making good passes and good runs.

Owen Hargreaves
- I thought he was bloody good against Portugal in all fairness (especially considering the stick he got). Was very good as a defensive midfielder and made some good attacking moves in the second half.

Beckham - is it past it? Don't know, but he's not been the worst player on the pitch.

Lennon - good player, would like to have seen more of him

The Defence - can't be arsed to do them individually as I thought they were all good.

Robinson - looked a bit shakey, can't say I felt 100% confident with him in net. Always looked slow to react.

Sven - all I can say is I wish I got paid £4million a year for being utterly crap at my job.

Crouch - so bad I have to mention him twice. No control, no awareness, no discernable skill of any sort.

Theo Walcott - whooooooo?

Why was this man brought to the world cup and Rooney can't support himself alone, he needs someone up with him like Michael Owen.

Thats the wrong question, bringing him was the right decision, not playing him was the wrong one. When we were playing sweden, and rooney had to come off due to him not being able to play a whole game, owen had already gone off for crouchy.. it would have been the perfect time to play Walcott, but no, he brings on Stewey D. amblin wrote:Mania, your point about Murray is valid, Henman was waved on by the cross of St George, but Murray would be waved on by the Union Jack. I understand the angst there. However, he plays for Britain. Why not just be proud of the fact Scotland managed to produce a player the English, the Welsh and the Irish can be proud of?

I hate that Scottish people feel the necessity to hate England so much, and my mother is half scottish and fairly anti-english in sentiment. However, she keeps her tongue and supports English teams/players. I wish those bigoted types north of the border would grow a damn brain and do the same - AND those all over the UK, not to mention the world. You are British as well as Scottish same as I am English as well as British. Though I'm only half english - the rest is scottish, irish and italian.

As for the game against Portugal, we played very well for the second hour, but it was all defensive. That wasn't going to win us the game, let alone the world cup. We've been disappointing all tournament same as Brazil and oh look - they lost too.

The problems were rooted with Sven and Beckham. Sven couldn't motivate a virgin in a whorehouse and Beckham is too meek to challenge poor tactics and substitutions or fire up his squad on the pitch. The team was at fault too - no belief or togetherness, look at the Portugese huddle before the game or Ronaldos confidence as he kissed the ball before his penalty. I have always hated the cockey twat, but at least he has passion.

I want Gerrard as Captain because of his obvious aptitude for the role - just look at the FA cup just gone.

I'm also not sure McClaren is going to be any better than Sven, I'm fairly sure he made most of the on-the-bench decisions this tournament, Sven just rubber stamped them. That may be why substitutions were always bewildering, one voice in the dressing room and another on the pitch leading to a confused message.

I'll stop now, I could rant for ages about this world cup... I hope Germany take it now, beating France in the final.
All of this HARD!

Especially the bit about Scottish sour grapes, and Sven being an idiot.

The only thing I would 100% disagree with is Roman's opinion on Peter Crouch, and if Sven played 4-4-2 with Rooney & Crouch up front, it would have been a very different result indeed, because frankly Portugal were shit.

Rooney = Hot Head
Sven = Idiot
Beckham = Wet Lettuce
Scottish = Sour Grapes :lol:

I suspect the press and the ranting masses will probably agree with you, but where does your basis for comparison come from to call England and Portugal shit? By reaching the quarter finals that by definition makes England in the top eight teams in the world, and Portugal in the top four. The problem England has, and this is where a lot of the anti-English feeling from the other home nations comes from, is that the media and fans have far too high an expectation of how the team will do. We're not the best team in the world and have very little chance of winning against teams like Brazil (yes, I know they're out too), France and Italy. Personally I think we did pretty well, especially considering the lacklustre performances of the group games. One thing to be said for the Scottish - English fans could benefit from some of the Scottish attitude towards their team. They know they're not going to win so they go out to enjoy the games and support their team. The English go out expecting to beat everyone hands down and get a big arse on when they don't.
