You probably spotted this from last week, but I wanted to reprise the story to lead into some other thoughts about The Witcher. Polish fantasy RPG The Witcher has sold 1 million copies. That's a fair amount for a game on any format. Developers CD Projekt are rightly pleased with this, and I'm glad that this unexpected success has allowed them scope to continue and expand their RPG-building projects. The Witcher was one of those games that made me say: "I'd like to see what they do next." I usually say that only to find that the company in question has gone bust (sorry, Troika) but it looks like that won't be the case here.

Might have to buy that for the next drought. Played through it on an original floor copy and was pretty impressed.

Never got the hang of the timing with the clicks, had the same trouble with WAR.

It was neither immediate visceral controls like an FPS, nor issuing queuing commands remotely to your minion like an RTS. It was like operating a puppet where the same strings would not work again for an abitrary time after you had plucked them but you couldn't scry closely enough to determine when this "repeated-use" time lapse had expired.

I didn't quite get the hang of the controls either, but I think it was my lack of any sort of interest in the plot that killed it for me. I've got it on my laptop for when I go away, so maybe it'll grow on me when forced to play it through desperation (if I don't buy a 3G dongle).

I got stuck in a Pokémon Master loop around the time you have your first bar-fight and wanted to do the same thing I did in Oblivion and STALKER - namely immediately demonstrate my immense prowess by becoming Grand Master Arena Champion Of Everything to the exclusion of all else, but instead getting battered in about the second round.

Oh, I'd forgotten about the Bar Fights, yeah, the controls didn't work for that, fisticuffs range meant that it was rather difficult to click on targets and your own character for blocking.

Seemed to work fine for normal sword fighting though.

Controls worked fine. Click and hold and one punch the fuckers!

Too many games right now, even though I had a great time fucking every damn thing that squatted to piss, including vampires and witches and such.

I'll admit: I fucking love The Witcher. I loved it when it was released, I loved it when it was patched, and the Enhanced Edition is one of the best best PC games I have ever played.
